Candy Review: Reese’s Crunchy Peanut Butter Cups

Reese’s Crunch Peanut Butter Cups

The first thing my little sister said to me when I told her that I scored a gig reviewing candy went something along the lines of the following:

“So what sort of candy are you going to give me?”

I had not even written my first review, and she was already trying to milk the perks. Being the good, older brother that I am, or maybe just feeling guilty remembering all the stuff big brothers put their little sisters through when growing up, I send her care packages every now and then with candy.

When we spoke several weeks ago, I inquired if she had received my latest shipment. She told me she had and continued to explain how she disliked everything I sent her. Mind you, she and I have very different ideas of what constitutes tasty when it comes to candy.

She did explain that as a candy reviewer, I was letting down the general public and her by not devoting enough time to Reese’s products, her all-time favorite. I tried explaining that there were simply no new products to review. This fact failed to placate her. Knowing the wrath a little sister could release, I picked my battle and told her the next time I saw a new Reese’s product, I’d not only review it, but also send her a box of whatever it was.

Candy Review: Nestle’s Crunch Dark

Nestle Crunch Dark Miniatures

I love to read the comments you guys post. It’s always great to see whether you agreed with my review or had a differing opinion I might not have have considered. I particularly enjoy the suggestions you leave.

On my article reviewing the expired 100 Grand Dark Bar, a fellow Candy Addict staff member, Monica, used her keen insight in my search for a great crisp rice bar, and she recommended I try Nestle’s Crunch with Caramel. I did just that and didn’t mind it as much as I thought I would. Having had my interest piqued in various Crunch Bar varieties from her suggestion, I then decided to try the Crunch Dark Bar.

Candy Review: Crème Savers Desserts Collection

Creme Savers Dessert Collection

Lifesavers were always one of those candies I shied away from buying as a kid. I found their flavors too artificial, and often only enjoyed one or two flavors per roll. I could never justify buying them since I really just didn’t like them that much.

However, browsing the candy aisle in Walgreens, I gave into curiosity and decided to purchase some of the LifeSaver spin-offs, Crème Savers. Crème Savers debuted in 1988 and come in a variety of flavors, but I was particularly drawn to the alluring bag of the desserts collection containing Apple Pie A La Mode, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Cinnamon Bun.

Candy Review: Snickers Almond Dark Minis

Snickers Almond Dark Mini Wrapper

Not to be outshone by its fellow Mars cousin, Twix, Snickers is reissuing its own dark chocolate spin-off that seems to only appear around this time of year: Snickers Dark Almond. Playing off the whole miniature, trick-or-treat-sized Halloween candy idea, Mars has released a bag of minis entitled Snickers Dark Mix, which I bought at Target.

The Snickers Dark Mix is comprised of Snickers regular (which makes me wonder how they can then call the whole bag dark), Snickers Dark, and the aforementioned new flavor. I have never really been a big fan of the original Snickers, but have always enjoyed the Dark line, so I was willing to give these a chance.

Lately, it seems to be all the rage in the candy world for marketers to modify or remodel their confectionery lineup by replacing the milk chocolate with dark chocolate. Do I have a problem with this? In theory, no I do not. Being only half-American and spending a lot of time outside of the country, I tend to prefer dark chocolate.

Top 10 Best Spin-Off Candies

If it weren’t for The Tracey Ullman Show, the world would have never had The Simpsons. Animaniacs gave viewers Pinky and the Brain. And where would we be if The Daily Show didn’t serve up The Colbert Report? This is a Top 10 list dedicated to candy spin-offs that not only succeeded in becoming sufficient candies on their own, but also surpassed their predecessor’s glory.
