Candy Review: Ed Hardy King Dog Energy Mints, Chocolate Rocks, and Coffee Rocks

Ed Hardy King Dog Energy Mints

As if candy wasn’t enough to jolt you back into the moment, we have plenty of super-charged, hulked-up versions of candy these days. One of these candy-on-steroids is Ed Hardy King Dog Energy Mints. They are “intensely caffeinated” mints and are sure to clear away the fog that rolls in post-lunch. Five of these bad boys have 100mg of caffeine and are equivalent to a cup of coffee. Grab a tin of these super-minty mints and you’ll be jacked up in no time – and as an added bonus you’ll have squeaky-clean breath. You’ll have to get past their not so awesome taste, though, as they taste like minty cough syrup. I’m definitely not a huge fan of the weird aftertaste that is pretty common in hyper-caffeinated products and quite noticeable in these mints.

Candy Review: Dentyne Pure gum

Dentyne Pure

It’s nice to take the occasional break from candy-eating and have a chance to try out some new gum. My two packs of Dentyne Pure couldn’t have come at a better time. I had just finished my morning latte and had an appointment with the eye doctor within the hour. I was a little apprehensive about having coffee breath and my mind wandered to all the terrible things people must deal with in their occupations. Massage therapists rubbing on a customer he would rather pay NOT to touch… Podiatrists with a funky-footed patient… an eye doctor treating a patient with medium-bold coffee breath. And now I’m back to reality.

Candy Review: Le Whif

Le Whif Package
All right, someone out there (and forgive the stereotypical assumption, but I’m thinking it’s one of the lady-folk) has found Aladdin’s lamp, because calorie-free chocolate has arrived! Unfortunately, it comes with this official Candy Addict caution: Granted wishes don’t always take the form you expect them to.

Brainy Harvard professor and inventor David Edwards has recently unveiled Le Whif, a breakthrough creation that allows chocoholics to inhale (through their mouths) chocolate particles (or, let’s call a spade a spade here, powder) so minuscule that they deliciously dust the sides of one’s mouth and tongue without so much as registering on the calorie scale. It’s an intriguing concept that’s kind of hard to imagine in practical form, so my interest was piqued when I was offered the chance to sample this fantasy product.

Candy Review: Oral Fixation Peppermint Mocha Mints

Oral fixation Peppermint Mocha

My go-to dictionary, the Canadian Oxford, defines “oral,” in part, as “of or concerning a supposed stage of… (infant) development in which the mouth is of central interest.” If this is the case, it would seem that many of us who write for this site never really outgrew the infant stage of development – we’ve never stopped trying to find as many interesting (and hopefully delicious) things to put in our mouths as possible. And apparently, neither have the good folks at Oral Fixation, who continue to provide us with new and increasingly unique flavors of their signature mints.

With flavors like chai, herbal jasmine, and mojito, Oral Fixation keeps pushing the envelope. The lineup has recently been joined by this new Peppermint Mocha flavor, which Oral Fixation’s website describes as providing “the caffeine jolt of a chocolate-covered espresso bean cut with cooling natural mint oil.”

Candy Review: Reese’s, Special Dark, Almond Joy and York Pieces

Hershey's Pieces

To me, one of the most exciting announcements at this year’s All Candy Expo was the addition of three new additions to the Pieces lineup. Never knew there was a Pieces lineup? Well, there is now, with Hershey’s Special Dark, Almond Joy and York Pieces joining the familiar Reese’s. But are these new additions worthy successors to the mantle of everyone’s favorite candy-coated peanut butter treat? (The Hershey’s folks threw in a sample pack of Reese’s Pieces too, so I’m doing a bonus review of those as well.)
