Candy Review: Dentyne Pure Gum & Stride Spark Gum

Dentyne Pure gum

Dentyne Pure

Dentyne Pure gum touts that it will “purify your breath” with natural botanical accents. The claim is that it “Neutralizes bad breath odors caused by bacteria and food.”

Mint with Melon Accents

The gum is a standard square shape, white with a harder candy coating over top of it. Upon the initial “chew”, the mint flavor is almost chemical in taste. This was almost a complete turn off from chewing it any more. But, as a Candy Addict, I must persevere. The candy shell breaks easily and the gum underneath is a good soft, but not too soft gum. The mint flavor is very sharp at first but does mellow off into a more natural mint flavor as I chewed. As for the “Melon Accents”, I never found them. Once in a while there might have been a hint of something other than mint but it disappeared just as fast as it came on. As for purifying my breath, it only did that so long as I was chewing the gum. Once I finished the piece, there really wasn’t any long-lasting effect.

Candy Review: GoNaturally Blood Orange and Iced Mint Mango

Categories: Candy,Candy Reviews,Hard Candy,Mint Candy,New Candy

Hillside Candy Go Naturally Blood Orange Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a brand of candy that was actually good for you and did more than just cause your teeth to fall out? Unfortunately, no such candy exists, but the folks at Hillside Candy have come awfully close with their “healthier-for-you” Go Naturally hard candies. These organic bad boys are free of gluten, free of preservatives, and made without high fructose corn syrup. Recently, two new flavors, Blood Orange and Ice Mint Mango, have been added to the Go Naturally line-up, but without all the unhealthy-but-delicious parts, do these candies taste any good? They do! The Blood Orange flavor tastes like… well… oranges. I’ll admit, I’m not quite sure how blood oranges differ from regular oranges in terms of flavor, but if this candy is to be trusted, blood oranges are sweeter and less tart.

red light chocolates box

It’s not often that I get to review a local candy but I got an email recently from a chocolate company that just happens to be local to me – Red Light Chocolates. After a couple of emails, I was in possession of a beautiful box of their artisanal chocolates to try.

Red light Chocolates use the finest, freshest ingredients they can find. All of their flavorings are natural – pure fruit purees, organic mint leaves, and Madagascar vanilla beans to name a few. All of their artisanal chocolates are handmade in small batches. They don’t use preservatives, so they encourage you to enjoy the chocolates within two weeks of receiving them. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it?

Candy Review: Ice Breakers Frost mints

Ice Breakers Frost

A powerful mint with a pleasant taste can be difficult to find. Too much “minty-ness” will leave a mouth burning – a sensation I seldom welcome in general. Particularly, I have this problem with peppermint mints. I like the peppermint, but it’s almost too much of a good thing. I also don’t like Big Red gum or Atomic Fireballs for this same reason. It’s like there’s no middle ground with mints. You either get super-minty-burn or a lackluster, vague mint flavor. Psshh, I don’t want that! I’m not particularly fond of mints in general because I can’t find that happy balance. Or so I thought.
