Candy Review: U Oughtta Be On Chocolates

U Oughtta be on Chocolates

What’s better than chocolate? My face on chocolate! Or your Grandma, favorite pet, or company logo on chocolate. U Ougghta be on Chocolates is just the company to make that happen. The nice folks who run the company took a few of my cherished photos and presto magic- they’re now 100% edible! They look great -even better than in my photos here- and made a great impression with my extended family who was delighted by it. We talked about how my Grandma never would have imagined she’d ever see herself on a chocolate one day. I think I was the favorite grand-kid that day! Grandma on chocolate

Candy Art: Candy Wrapper Jewelry and Home Accessories

Candy Wrapper Bracelet
A couple of years ago (yeah, we were that up on the trend), Brian wrote an article about Ecoist’s Candy Wrapper Handbags, a line of bags made from recycled and repurposed candy wrappers, food packages, and soft drink labels. Well, since then the whole Green Movement has really taken off and Ecoist has kept pace by expanding their popular line to include bracelets, coasters, napkin rings, and placemats.

Now I ask you, what better way to proclaim your support of sugar in public or at intimate dinner parties? It’s like the Livestrong bracelet for green candy fans. (That would be environmentally-friendly Addicts, not those of you with a penchant for a certain color M&M – though you can get in on the action, too.)

Like Brian, I have yet to identify any recognizable brands (these are 100% handmade in Mexico and Peru and my guess is that many of the wrappers are those of Latin American treats), but the origins of both the eye-popping, confetti-like palette and the chic silver line are undeniably sweet. And for the more brand-conscious amongst you, Ecoist produces equally stunning products with packaging from Coca-Cola and Diet Coke, Luna Bars, Dasani water, and a “swirl” that looks conspicuously like the Good Humor logo.

Japanese Candy Review: Wata Gum

This is one of the weirdest/coolest candy that I have come across in a while. It’s called Wata Gum (Wata means cotton in Japanese) and it looks sort of like cotton candy, fiberglass, or multiple sheets of toilet paper packed together. It’s soft and light like cotton candy and pulls apart like cotton candy, but when you put it in your mouth and start chewing it turns into gum! Freaky!

It’s also supposed to be fizzy, but I experienced no fizzines whatsoever – maybe the package wasn’t sealed and it went flat? Meiji Wata Gum comes in a number of different flavors -Orange Cola, Strawberry Milk (both reviewed below), and also Vanilla Cola, Cream Soda, and Green Apple (and maybe more).

Orange Cola: This taste was very similar to the Super Cola Shigekix I reviewed. It had an odd cola-ish flavor that was overshadowed by an orangey/citrus flavor. It was quite tasty.

Strawberry Milk: This one smelled exactly like Strawberry Quik when I opened the package. It had a nice, not-too-strong strawberry flavor to it. Very good.

Like I said, this stuff was crazy odd, but cool nonetheless. I definitely suggest giving it a try. It may be weird and freaky but it’s pretty tasty!

Cola Flavored Candy

Haribo Gummi Cola

I went to the World market today and my wife convinced me to pick up some Haribo Gummi Cola Bottles. I haven’t had them in ages and I forgot how good they are. That got me thinking about cola/soda flavored candies. I LOVE the cola and root beer flavored Bottlecaps. I recently tried Cola Shigeki and they were pretty good. I haven’t ever had a cola-flavored candy I didn’t like. Why don’t more companies make cola flavored candy? Am I in a small minority of people that likes the flavor?

Let’s see if we can list all the cola-flavored candies from the past and present….
