Candy Review: Tic Tac Summer Edition Flavors: Mango and Tropical Acerola

Tic Tac Summer Edition
“Oohh, cool! New Tic Tac flavors! I think I might grab one of these mango ones… and one of these… wait! What? What the heck is a Tropical Acerola? How do you even pronounce acerola? Ahh, who cares, best buy one anyway.” That was pretty much the conversation I had in my head as I found myself looking at these “summer edition” Tic Tacs.

Eventually a bit of search engine action solved the mystery – acerola is actually a wild tropical cherry native to the West Indies. One has to wonder the thought process of a Tic Tac flavor guy sitting around and thinking, “Hmmm! I know! Let’s introduce a totally obscure fruit flavor! What about the acerola?” I, for one, am glad he didn’t choose to go with durian (hint: the ripe fruit is meant to smell like rotting human flesh). (And I bet you didn’t think you would ever see the expression “rotting human flesh” on a candy website! Hey, I like to keep it interesting.)

Having never tried an actual acerola, I can only say that the Tic Tac version is quite nice. It actually tastes like a cross between raspberry and mint, with a decidedly “hot” feeling on your tongue. It works really well as a more gentle type of mint with an added dash of the tropical, and it really did have a summery taste to it.

Mango is one of those flavors which I think is very hard to reproduce in candy – a bit like banana, you never really get a true fruit flavor coming through. This one, like the acerola, is slightly spicy in nature. The first taste is actually pretty mango-ish and the flavor stays around for quite a while.

While neither of these set my world on fire, they were nice additions to the Tic Tac flavors already out there. Given that it’s currently winter Down Under, they served as a nice reminder of days by the beach and drinks by the pool. Now if only I could somehow convince Candy Addict to sponsor an acerola tasting trip to the West Indies….

Candy Games: Indiana Jones Mint Crisp Challenge

M&Ms Indiana Jones Game candy chocolate

You’d have to be living in a cave to not know that the newest Indiana Jones film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be opening in theaters on May 22nd, and about time too! It seems that advertisements, posters and other promotional ties are everywhere with my favorites being the the Mint Crisp M&Ms, along with the Snickers Adventure Bar that were released especially for the new movie. Now you can enjoy more Indiana Jones candy action with the game on the M&Ms website!

The premise is simple: you experience the excitement of Indiana Jones by playing either as Green, Red or Yellow while you explore the ancient Mayan Temple in search of their greatest treasure: the Mint Crisp M&Ms! It’s very cute, especially since I felt as if I had my own treasure hunt trying to find these in stores. I found this game to be like the Mint Crisp M&Ms, totally addicting! Give it a try and be sure to let us know if you succeed in finding the treasure.

Limited Edition Candy Rant

Limited Edition

The following was sent to us via email and since all of us at Candy Addict have fallen in love with a Limited Edition candy or three, I figured it was worth sharing (with permission):

Like the mysterious beauty of sumptuousness that waddles in the night, it is not a deniable charge, we Americans are rather rotund. We are not however, stupid. (mostly)

I have always had a sweet tooth, hell I’ve always had a sweet mouth. And as a child, whatever I found at the store delighted me. “Oh I found a big Hershey bar – magic has surely been done here!” But I am no longer a child and I am fairly certain the tooth fairy is a tooth junkie, and I am not amused, candy companies… not amused….

You litter the field with genre after genre of limited edition candies, some I hate and some I love, and then you yank them away leaving me the crumbs of the same tired fooking thing time after time. Like expecting a full fridge and finding only milk, eggs, and bread… sure you can do lots with them but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Getting rid of Twix Java and leaving us with another PB disaster is the last straw.

Stop giving us remixed, boring candy and take a page from the other countries who do something amazing, and spread themselves out, like the branches of a well-grown tree. Enough crap. Bring back the good, the bad and the different!

We pay your salary, you miserable two-bit toothless old tooth fairies… we may like our butter and creme and fattening convenient things… but that doesn’t mean we’re paying you to kill us with monotony! We’re paying you to make it pleasant to live with dunderheads like YOU!

Signed,
a concerned and peeved consumer

Candy Review: Indiana Jones’ Mint Crisp M&Ms

Mint Crisp M&Ms Package

They’re finally here! The long awaited Mint Crisp M&Ms that we heard were coming out in time for the new Indiana Jones movie are finally on shelves. And not a moment too soon! Between my eagerness to see Indy in his new geriatric adventure glory and tasting the new M&Ms adventure that Mars has planned for us, I could hardly contain my excitement when I found these in the store. It was like finding Indy’s candy holy grail in a way.

The M&Ms are not the only new candy with the Indiana Jones tie-in. There’s also the Snickers Adventure Bar that I reviewed back in January. The plain Milk Chocolate, Peanut and the new Mint Crisp M&Ms are outfitted in new themed packages and they are quite attractive I admit (more so than the Shrek and the Pirates of the Caribbean ones M&Ms). Of course the Mint Crisp ones are a special limited edition flavor tied to the movie like the White Chocolate Pirate Pearls were.
