Candy Gadget – Picture Frame Gumball Dispenser

Gumball Frame

Do you love gumballs but don’t have the room for the floor stand or tabletop variety? Or are you just looking to display your favorite candy like a work of art? Coming in at around 12 inches, the Gum-Wall has the appearance of a flattened gumball machine mounted against a mirror and stuck into a picture frame.

The machine is fairly flat, and it appears that you can only add one layer of gumballs, but that still should add up to enough to last you quite some time (and it’s refillable). This would go great in a kids room or you could put it in your cubicle and be everyone’s new favorite coworker.

Find chocolate near you with Chocomap.com

Chocomap result for Walnut Creek, CA

Chocomap is probably the best use of GoogleMaps technology I’ve seen so far. The website’s goal is to have a comprehensive collection of chocolate shops in cities around the world. However, this won’t give you the location of the nearest 7-11 where you can pick up a Snickers bar. Chocomap focuses on the artisan shops and specialty stores where chocolate is still handmade with love and care. I can definitely see how this site can be useful if you’re visiting another city and want to satisfy a craving.

In addition to the GoogleMap, the site also stands as a tribute to the art of chocolate-making itself. Sections feature favorite places to get bonbons and bars as well as an introduction to chocolate called Chocolate 101.

I only managed to find one chocolate shop in the city closest to my home, even though I know of at least two more. It looks like Chocomap relies on the shops themselves to input their information into the database. So the only thing I can do is to encourage my favorite small shops to visit this site and fill out the online form. Perhaps other Candy Addicts out there can do the same for their favorite chocolatiers if they’re not already listed.

Gummi Bear Soap

Naiad's Gummi Bear Soap

Being a typical guy, I probably give about half a second’s thought per month to hand soap. I’ve been using a seemingly endless bottle of Dial for probably the better part of a decade. Every time I go under the sink to refill the dispenser, there never seems to be any less than before.

I stumbled on these Gummi Bear soaps the other day and it actually made me want to wash my hands with one of these bears. Naiad, a user on Etsy (a site for selling handmade crafts) has mini Gummi Bear soaps for sale in her store.

The soaps, which are the same size as actual Gummi Bears, are even scented to correspond with the flavors they would normally be (i.e. whitish is pineapple, etc.). You get 25 tiny Gummi Bear soaps, in a bulk candy package, for only $5. You can’t go wrong at that price, though I’d be tempted to eat them, instead of washing my hands with them. Better keep them away from kids! Washing your hands before dinner is going to seem like dessert.

Naiad also has some chocolate-themed soaps like chocolate/coffee soap and chocolate/mint soap for sale too.

I just emailed her and she said she has lots in stock so if you want some and it says sold out, just contact her and ask about it.

The 3D Candy Printer – CandyFab 4000

Sculpture made entirely of sugar with the CandyFab 4000. From evilmadscientist.com

The folks at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories (what an awesome name!) has created what amounts to a 3D candy printer. Each creation is mapped out on a computer program, and then the fabricator (dubbed the CandyFab 4000) goes to work. It basically gets hot enough to fuse sugar together and forms instant sculptures.

Unfortunately, the sculptures aren’t really edible since the makers can’t say if the hot-air guns used to make the sculptures won’t contaminate the sugar. Bummer. (I think I still want one anyway!)

The Choc-u-lator: the chocolate bar calculator

Choculator - from http://www.rakuten.co.jp/

The simple milk chocolate bar is probably my favorite comfort food. No nuts, no caramel, no nougat, nothing except pure, unadulterated chocolate. But maybe I should take a closer look at my next treat. It might turn out to be this new electronic gadget. It looks exactly like chocolate bar, down to the ornate wrapper and packaging. A closer look reveals numbers on the pieces and a small LCD screen and solar panel.

Apparently, the calculator even smells like chocolate. The thing looks so much like a candy bar, I might even be tempted to gnaw on a corner just to make sure it’s not edible. Looks like the perfect calculator for any candy addict, but I wonder how teachers would react to it? They might assume you’re sneaking snacks in class.
