Easter Candy Review: Brach’s Bunny Basket Eggs

Brach's Bunny Basket Eggs

I don’t know why or what it is about Easter Candy: the colors, the designs, the pleasing egg shapes, the promise of spring, but for some reason during this specific candy season I feel compelled to ignore my better instincts and try the grossest and oddest stuff I can get my hands on.

Last year I reviewed Brach’s Chicks and Rabbits, which are like the rejects of the circus peanuts. This year, my fancy was caught by these odd, large, brightly colored eggs. I mean, picking up the bag, it feels heavier than what it looks like it should be. Is this a good or bad sign? I could only shove my good judgment into my back pocket and throw the bag of these babies into my cart. I mean, come on, I’ve had some pretty strange things before. So how strange could these really be?

I have to admit, I’m a bit of a novice to a lot of the Easter Candy out there. My parents, or rather, the “Easter Bunny” preferred to give chocolate rabbits, dyed eggs and Jelly Bellys. So I was never given the pectin jelly beans that everyone goes mad over this time of year. I also never got any of the malted robins eggs, marshmallow Peeps (gasp! I know!) or the purely sugar-based confections like the Bunny Basket Eggs. I mean, I think it wasn’t until high school that I had my first Cadbury Creme Egg! Looking back on it, I’m wondering how hindered I was by this, considering how my love of candy has grown to epic proportions.

Easter Candy Review: Lindt Fun Eggs

Lindt Fun Egg Chocolate Candy

Random new candy purchases can be dangerous. On one hand you could have found a new favorite, on the other you may have wasted money on some sub-par, run-of-the-mill candy that you wouldn’t mind never seeing again. The former was the case when I found these Lindt Fun Eggs.

I was prowling around shopping the other weekend and thought I’d check in my local Lindt retail store for some eye candy. I didn’t expect to buy anything, seriously, because Lindt is pretty reliable in regard to releasing the same old classic confections for the holidays from year to year. So you can expect my surprise when I saw these two new filled eggs on display. One with a passion fruit vanilla creme and the other strawberry. What struck me as so new and exotic about these was not only that these were new Easter items, but as far as I know I’ve never even seen these flavors attempted by Lindt before. Luck was surely shining on me.

Candy Review: Lindt Chocolate Mini Roundup

Lindt Excellence 99% Chocolate Bar

As anyone can tell you, I love chocolate. I’m simply crazy for it and I’ll do anything to get my hands on the stuff. So I’m sure it comes as no surprise to you to hear that chocolate makes up a majority of the candy that I eat. Like Caitlin has her passion for licorice, I have my passion for chocolate. I can’t get enough of it.

Chocolate can be a difficult thing to love, simply because there’s so many types out there. I’m lucky in a sense because I’m game for all varieties; dark, milk, white. I don’t discriminate, I find it all heavenly. I do know people who’ll only eat dark, who’ll only eat milk, who’ll only eat it in candy bar form, who’ll only eat bonbons, etc. That’s part of the beauty of chocolate, there’s something out there for everyone. Since I’ve started writing for Candy Addict, I’ve starting to change with my chocolate consumption habits. And no, I’m not saying that I’m eating more of it now. What I mean is that opposed to just eating my chocolate, I’m tasting it.

Candy Review: Wildly Cherry M&Ms

Wildly Cherry M&Ms Package

The candy gods were smiling on me during my last weekly shopping trip. As I patiently waited in the checkout line scanning the boxes of candy lined up, I immediately noticed something different. What’s this I see? A red M&Ms wrapper? My heart skipped a beat as I realized it was the new Wildly Cherry M&Ms! Had the day I’ve been waiting for finally come?

I was so excited to find these new Wildly Cherry M&Ms. Why? Well, when I was at the All Candy Expo back in September, the people at Mars, who weren’t ready to unveil the wrapper and samples just yet, still allowed me a “sneak taste” of these. I was handed a little plastic cup and the booth guy carefully poured a couple into it for me.

I stood there and squealed in delight, especially when I tasted them. I really, really liked them. Something about the new flavor, the way the M&Ms were mysteriously dished out to me in such secrecy, and the flavor just made them so appealing to me. It doesn’t help that red is also my favorite color! We were told they’d hit stores around March of 2008 so I did my best to put them out of my mind, waiting for the day I’d see them again.

Candy Review: Terra Nostra’s Pocket Chocolate Bars

Terra Nostra Organic Pocket Chocolate Bars

As a Candy Addict I have pretty strong cravings for sweets – specifically, chocolate. This can be seen as a good or bad thing depending on your point of view, or for me, depending on my mood. Some days I crave a lot of it, which can be bad, since my motto is “everything in moderation” and it makes me cranky when I want to eat more than I should. I’m sure you all understand the feeling, right?

This is why, yet again, the chocolates over at Terra Nostra have come to my rescue. Not only do they make ricemilk chocolate that makes my milk-free lifestyle a little easier, they’ve now got a new Pocket Bar line so I can feel like I’m eating more chocolate than I actually am. These new cute and wonderfully flavored Pocket Bars bars weigh in at 42 grams, which is nice since I can eat the whole thing without actually eating a more “normal” sized chocolate bar weighing in at 100g. The small size is also extremely portable which makes satisfying my chocolate cravings that much more convenient.
