As a woman trying to watch her daily calorie intake, I have frequently purchased 100 calorie snacks. These low-calorie snacks are a relatively new phenomenon for the weight-conscious individual. You can find 100 calorie boxes of all sorts of snacks and cookies these days. The Nutty Bar is like a Kit Kat with peanut butter added to the layers of chocolate and wafers, but on a larger scale. It is definitely candy bar worthy. At 12 to a box with a cost of less than $2.00 per box, they’re very reasonable to purchase for your every day snack food.

Hot Cocoa Roundup – Seven Varieties Reviewed
It’s winter and what Candy Addict doesn’t love some liquid chocolate? I am a hot cocoa fanatic. I hate the cold, but the only ray of sunshine in an otherwise dismal winter is the prospect of hot cocoa. It must be served in the winter. There’s something so soothing about drinking warm chocolate when you’re wrapped up in a blanket on a cold night.
I chose seven types of hot chocolate for this tasting. They are, in the order I tasted them, Hershey’s Special Dark Hot Cocoa, Cacao Reserve by Hershey’s Mayan Blend Drinking Cocoa Premium Mix, Land O’Lakes Butterscotch Hot Cocoa, Land of Lakes Mint Hot Cocoa, Swiss Miss French Vanilla Hot Cocoa, Swiss Miss Dark Chocolate Sensation Hot Cocoa, and Godiva Hot Cocoa.
The first obstacle in tasting all these cocoas was the water vs. milk debate. Some of the hot cocoas direct you to use water specifically, others say to use milk instead, and still others have water in the directions but say, “for a richer creamier treat, replace water with heated milk.†At first, I decided to follow their strict instructions, but ended up winging it a little. I always choose milk over water, but for the purposes of the review, I used water when it was called for, in most instances. On to the reviews. . .
Candy Review: Coffee and Extra Creamy Kit Kat

Personally, I’ve always found Kit Kat bars to be rather creamy already, so when I saw the Extra Creamy Limited Edition bar, I was intrigued. Next to it in the store was a Limited Edition Coffee Kit Kat so, of course, I had to try both!
Extra Creamy: The extra creamy Kit Kat really didn’t taste any different to me. It just seemed to melt faster. Perhaps that’s what extra creamy means. I guess M&Ms will never come out with a limited edition extra creamy brand of M&Ms or that would ruin their whole “melts in your mouth, not in your hands” motto. . . but I digress. It was definitely a good Kit Kat, but I don’t think the candy world should shed any tears when this limited edition bar goes out of season. It doesn’t taste different enough from the regular bar to warrant even picking it up. Now the Coffee Kit Kat, that’s an entirely different story. . .
Coffee: I, for one, am not a fan of coffee. I do, however, enjoy the smell of coffee, but that’s as far as it goes. Because of this, I had my fiance, who really likes coffee, give me his opinion of the coffee Kit Kat. First of all, the moment he opened the package, it was like we were in the coffee aisle at the grocery store. It was seriously pungent. We were both hopeful that this would be an excellent addition to the Kit Kat bar family. I had no idea that this would only end in tears. He tasted the bar, he was less than pleased. He insisted I try it, even though I already dislike coffee. It’s like that SNL skit where one person tastes bad milk and offers it to everyone else at the table saying, “this is terrible, you have to try it”. So I tried it. I would say it tasted like coffee. . . grinds. Seriously, it was like chewing up coffee grinds.
Maybe it was the crunchiness of the wafer inside that made me think that, but it was the worst chocolate candy bar either of us had ever tasted. Neither of us could even swallow it. We left the Coffee Kit Kat carcass on the coffee table while we began to watch a movie and a few minutes into it, I had to go throw the candy in the trash can because the mere smell of it made me feel ill. Lesson learned, just because it smells good, doesn’t mean it tastes good.
To sum up, Extra Creamy Kit Kat – just as good as the original, it just melts faster. Coffee Kit Kat – spawn of Satan, stay away.
Dog Food Candy
I was watching the Food Network the other day (love that station) and saw an episode where they were talking about strange candies. It was great, I wish we could post the entire show on here. This one stuck out though. It’s called Kooky Chew Dog Bowl Candy. Yes, it looks like dog food, it’s even in a dog bowl, but it tastes like graham crackers. Each bowl contains 2 1/2 ounces of delicious graham cracker flavor cookies (kibbles and bits) and a candy bone. They talked about how it’s difficult to keep your children out of the pet’s food at home. I don’t have children, so I can’t confirm or deny these statements. Please chime in, do your kids try to eat your pet’s food? Would they like this candy? And if they wanted it, would you let them eat it out of the dish like a dog?
The maker, Koko’s Confectionery & Novelty, also makes K9 Candies which are colorful dog bone shaped candies that also come in a plastic dog bowl.

Outlawed candy – Big League Chew and Candy Cigarettes
Did your mom let you eat Big League Chew or Candy Cigarettes? My mom didn’t. Big League Chew is delicious bubble gum that came in original and grape flavors (now it also comes in Cotton Candy, Sour Apple, Sour Cherry, Strawberry and Watermelon flavors). It came in what looked like a tobacco chew pack and the gum was all stringy like shredded tobacco. When you chewed it, I remember it having this grainy feel, probably because of all the sugar you had to chew out of it to be able to chew it like bubble gum. You’d see how much you could stuff in your mouth or put it between your bottom gum and lip to pretend you were really chewing tobacco. Hmmm, I guess that’s why Mom didn’t like it. Point taken.

Bubble gum cigarettes were the most fun because they had a powder in the middle that when you blew on it, it looked like smoke coming out of the end. So now you really thought you looked like you were smoking. Again, probably the reason Mom didn’t like it. I had to sneak away and buy this confection from the local candy store (Bob Clark’s Pharmacy).

Candy cigarettes were just a white stick of sugary substance with a little pink at the end that was supposed to look like the lit end of the cigarette. Personally, I didn’t think they really tasted any good.

You can still buy candy and bubble gum cigarettes
