Unless you’ve been living under a Pop Rock, you’ve heard the pop tunes of Katy Perry — maybe on your radio or maybe your kids have been singing about “California Gurls†or “E.T.†On the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone, Katy Perry has donned a Hershey’s Kiss bra. I’m sure there are some folks in Pennsylvania thanking the artist for putting their chocolaty treats on the minds of tweenyboppers all over the planet.
I was excited review the Brach’s Sugar Free Lemon Drops. Lemon drops aren’t really a sexy candy to review. But it’s a hard and sour candy – both of which are right up my alley.
I liked that the candies are individually wrapped. That’s helpful for grabbing a few and dropping them into your purse/pocket/lunchbox.
In the end, it’s a good lemon drop. It’s not as good as a full-fledged made-with-real-sugar lemon drop. But it’s got quite a bit of flavor. I missed the sparkly sugar coating that you get on some lemon drops. But I guess an isomalt coating wouldn’t have been a hit either.
Before biting into this candy, I did a little background checking on it. Palmer Candy Company, the mastermind behind the Twin Bing, has been around for over 130 years and the Twin Bing was concocted in 1973. They must be doing something right.
When I tear it open the cute package, the strong, delicious smell of peanut butter wafts out. Pulling out the twins, it’s two mounds that connect to form one “bar.†I’m not gonna lie… it looks a little gross. Growing up, my mom made cookies with oatmeal, peanut butter, and cocoa powder officially called “No Bake Cookies†— lovingly nicknamed “Cow Piles.â€

Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream in Columbia, Missouri, announced on their Facebook page on May 31 that their next ice cream flavor would be laced with cicadas. Yeah, the loud, buzzing arthropods that have been emerging from the ground recently. Since then, public health officials have been bugging out. However, the University of Illinois says the little buggers are edible and have an almond flavor.
I gotta say, anything smothered in brown sugar and chocolate must be absolutely delicious. If I weren’t geographically dislocated from Columbia, Missouri, I’d definitely give the cicada ice cream a try. What say you, Candy Addicts? Go or no on cicada ice cream?
