My family raised me on dark chocolate. Everything good had to be dark chocolate – bars, covered raisins, even cookies. Milk chocolate was tolerated in my family, but was often considered only a viable alternative when dark chocolate could not be found. However, white chocolate was banned.
I am not sure what my parents had against this confection, but whatever their reasons were, I too decided I hated white chocolate. I never bought or consumed the stuff for years.
It wasn’t until I started dating someone who hated all forms of real chocolate, and thus loved white chocolate, that I even gave it a second glance. I pretended that I too adored white chocolate, for the sake of appearing to be on the same page. To my surprise, whenever we shared a Zero or white chocolate Toblerone, I found myself enjoying it.
Since then, I have been consuming more and more white chocolate. There aren’t many popular brands readily available for purchase, but there are a few. KitKat White just happens to be the one that recently caught my eye at my local H.E.B.
I never got swept up in the Kit Kat craze. I loved the jingle on their commercials, and never hated their products, but found it to be just an O.K. piece of candy. Even after being exposed to a variety of other flavors not available in the US when I lived in New Zealand and Australia, I still was not a fan.
Unwrapping the piece of candy, a strong, but not overpowering aroma of creamy white chocolate bursts from the sticks. I take a bar in my fingers, and listen to the firm snap of the candy as I break it in half.
Taking a bite, I notice a major difference between this version and the classic. The white chocolate coating is much thicker than the milk chocolate variety. As a result, I am not inundated with the crispy wafer portion as intensely, instead having a true melding of inner and outer portions.
My main problem with Kit Kats has always been that there was never enough chocolate to complement the center, but Kit Kat White remedies this swimmingly. As far as the chocolate goes, it’s a delicious, thick, and almost milky white chocolate that didn’t burn my throat. If you don’t like white chocolate, you might not enjoy it, but those who appreciate this sort of candy will undoubtedly find it tasty, as I did.
I have seen a few other white chocolate candies in the shelves catch my eye… like the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup variety. I haven’t really ever been compelled to try one, thinking white chocolate and peanut butter are just too strong to complement one-another, but after my pleasurable experience with KitKat White, I think I’ll give it a try.

I’ve noticed that people who really love true chocolate cannot stand white chocolate, but people who are ambivalent about chocolate like or love white chocolate. I myself like both but am not overly enamored with either.
Anyway, I agree that the White Kit Kats are pretty good. Strangely, the white chocolate Reese’s Cups make me feel sick every time I eat them. :(
December 29th, 2008 at 11:07 amYum White Choc Toblerone…. I’m not sure about this, I’ve never been a fan of Kit-Kat at all, and in agreement living Aus still hasnt made me anymore partial to it. Is this even in Australia? I still might give it a try cause I love white chocolate, and yes, I like it much better than milk and much better than dar. Call me crazy, I know, lol.

January 7th, 2009 at 7:24 pmWhite chocolate anything is usually my candy of choice so I’d say that Kit Kat Whites are awesomely addictive in my book! I think they’re delicious! Oddly enough, I don’t like White Chocolate Reese’s cups at all. As a lover of nearly all things Reese’s, one would think I would be the first to pounce on a white chocolate version, but it’s just too much. I find the cups overly sweet and the waxy borderline tasteless coating doesn’t go well with the peanut butter at all. You might give it a try though, Robby. I guess someone out there must enjoy it or they wouldn’t make it.
