It’s no secret to our regular Candy Addict readers that I am slightly obsessed with all things mint chocolate. There is something quite perfect about the combination: the creaminess of milk chocolate matched with the cool snap of peppermint is a marriage made in Candy Addict heaven. So you can imagine how excited I was when I came across Hershey’s Bliss Creme de Menthe candies.
I was already a Hershey’s Bliss fan; their milk chocolate meltaways are currently competing with Dove Milk Chocolate Promises as the dominant milk chocolate pieces in my big red candy bowl. I was actually surprised at how tasty the Bliss chocolates are; Hershey’s chocolate, to me, always seems to have a slightly bitter, waxy taste, but the Bliss pieces are creamy and delicious and the exact opposite of your standard Hershey’s chocolate bar.
The Creme de Menthe Meltaway Bliss chocolates are no exception: the chocolate is lovely and sweet, with a nice milky texture that makes it the type of chocolate you let linger in your mouth for a while before chewing. The Creme de Menthe meltaway center is a bit strong; those of you who only like a hint of mint in your candies might feel overpowered by it. Personally, I thought it was delicious, a bit like a super-rich York Peppermint Pattie with a sharp bite. As the candy melts in your mouth, the dreamy layer of milk chocolate softens the strong snap of the mint, making it a truly blissful candy experience.
An added bonus: the Creme de Menthe Meltaways are a perfect holiday treat; with their sparkling green wrappers and candy cane-esque centers, they’d be a great addition to any holiday candy dish.

December 12th, 2008 at 3:29 pmI love Hershey’s Bliss. I think that they far surpass Dove Chocolates which are boring! Hershey’s has many new and cool flavors for their Kisses Brand and I would like to see them introduce some of these cool flavors to their Bliss Chocolates as well! Also I have a friend that works for M&M Mars and he has told me that the sanitary conditions at their plants have become horrible in order to cut cost! What a shame to see companies put money over quality!
