Very few candies scare me just by hearing the name. I can think of a few though… vomit flavored jellybeans, garlic mints, Hotlix (candy with real bugs in it). I think these Chum Bucket Mints are some of the scariest though.
I’ve had the tin of them for a week or two now but keep finding other things to do rather than try them. But, the time has come and as I sit here writing this, I still have not tried them. The tin says “Chum Flavored Candy,” the ingredients include “artificial seafood flavor” and the smell is telling me to throw them away and don’t try them. “DON’T DO IT, BRIAN!” my brain yells at me. I don’t like most real seafood, so I can’t imagine I will like “artificial seafood flavor” in candy form.
Ok, it’s time. I’m now going to try them and get this over with. I’m feeling nauseous already and I haven’t even tried them yet. In it goes….
Ok, the first taste is like that odd taste of Flintstones chewable vitamins (anyone else remember those?). Then it moves into a fishier taste but not as overwhelmingly fishy as the smell was indicating. There’s a slight tang to the taste. I’m grimacing the whole time, just waiting for it to become horrendously bad. I’m scared to chew it.
Ok, I’m maybe half through it by sucking it and I can’t take it anymore. Into the trash it goes.
Ok, that wasn’t nearly as bad I expected. It wasn’t good, but wasn’t as bad as some candy I have tried (sausage jellybean, I’m talking about you). You don’t buy Chum Bucket Mints for the taste. It would make a good gag if you swapped these mints for some other similar mint and gave them to friends (soon to be enemies). I do have to admit though, the tin is pretty cool.
Now, off to brush my teeth for 30 minutes…

And I work for the company that makes them.

July 6th, 2008 at 12:33 pmI am glad that they weren’t as bad as the Jones Tuna Pate soda. yummy.
July 7th, 2008 at 10:43 amYes I remember Flinstones vitamins. I begged for that shit on a daily basis.
These things sound like the nasty little Pokemon candies I was suckered into at Toys R Us last week. I found one wedged in the couch cushion and ate it the other night. I am Mom, the human vacuum cleaner, and I need help.
