When I was about 8, our family moved to a remote part of Connecticut that was easily five miles from any main commercial shopping areas. The only place we could get candy was the neighborhood gas station, complete with a grungy, grumpy old mechanic guy who, though a bit scary, stocked some awesome candy in his little 2-bay garage; I have since wondered if he was a Candy Addict himself. Of all the candies that he had on display (and though I bought others, too), it was the Seven Up bar that got a sizable chunk of my allowance money every time.
Discontinued sometime in the 70’s, the Seven Up bar began its seven-sectioned life in the 1930s, before the 7-Up Bottling Company began making its soft drink. Eventually the 7-Up company bought the bar and retired it, so they had the exclusive use of the name whichever way it was spelled: Seven Up or 7-Up. None of that mattered a whit to me, as I was only interested in one thing: those seven sections of chocolate-covered different candy centers, meaning I was getting seven big pieces of candy in one regular-sized bar. Quite a bargain to me back then for my hard-saved pennies and nickels (shoot, I’d pay just about anything for one today)!
The Seven Up bar itself consisted of seven separated, filled sections connected by an outer chocolate shell. The shell was real milk chocolate, a bit thick on the edges, but thinner over the fillings, and had a good snap to it if bitten, and a smooth melt if left upon your tongue. The seven fillings were: Orange Jelly, Maple, Caramel, Brazil Nut, Fudge, Coconut, and Cherry; each was so distinct and different that no two bites were remotely alike. I loved the Seven Up bar for that reason especially, and, too, both the chocolate and the candy centers were really, really good.
The Orange Jelly filling was so unique compared to the rest, with the cracking of the chocolate coating a fun contrast to the jellied center; I remember this one as being particularly good. Very orangey and sweet, kind of like an Orange Crush soda. The Maple was smooth, creamy and very, very sweet; similar to the maple syrup candy that you can buy in New England. Caramel was chewy and thick as well as deliciously buttery and sweet.
Brazil Nut had that rich, oily nutty flavor true to Brazil nuts, and the Fudge went especially well with this one if you chose to actually eat the two together (which is probably why they put those two next to each other)! Fudge was rich, thick and very, very intensely chocolaty. Coconut was exactly like my mother’s coconut cookies, which I still love, and again, a very sweet filling. And finally, the Cherry, which was not usually a favorite flavor for me in other candies. However, this Cherry filling was so fruity, tasty and smooth that it melted right away in my mouth and left me quite satisfied.
I always ate my Seven Up bar in order, starting with one end and moving to the other. I once broke the sections apart and tried eating it that way, not being sure of what I would be getting since they were out of order, but I got frustrated and went back to my orderly biting off of those chocolate chunks, savoring each one slowly (though I did have a hard time not biting into both the Brazil Nut and the Orange Jelly and chomping them up with the chocolate together, making for a great textural experience in addition to the great taste).
Necco’s Sky Bar, originating in the 1938 and still available today, is the only thing similar to the Seven Up bar, however, with only four compartments, it pales in comparison for me. I’d love to see the Seven Up bar brought back in its full, original, seven-sectioned glory… overly-sweet but wonderful, those chocolate-covered compartments containing unique flavors that I swear I can still taste. If you wanted a lot of different flavors in one bar, rather like picking the best pieces out of your mother’s big box of Valentine’s candy, then the Seven Up bar was the one to have, and there are many of us out here today who would love to have one now!
Wow..did you bring back memories. The Seven Up bar was my all time favorite. Just like you said, each section was awesome. I also started at one end and continued down to the last piece, I think it was the brazil nut. I would love to have it brought back, but there is no way it would be that good anymore, not with all the artificial flavors and chemicals they use now.
But thanks for the memories..it was a delicious trip! (I too, loved the orange jelly, and the cherry..oh heck, loved the whole thing)
I did not know why they stopped making it, now that I do, I am so glad that I do not drink soda..especially 7-Up….

I had never even heard of these, they sound amazing! Honestly, after reading this review my mouth is watering. I do have this bizarre vision in my head of a can of Crush beating the high-fructose-corn-syrup tar out of a can of 7-Up, though. :P
Too bad they still don’t make these, because I would love to get my hands on one!

Oh, you described it perfectly! Even down to the grungy gas station where I would buy them, too. I remember going with my dad when he would get his car serviced. He would always buy me a candy bar and I would choose either the Seven Up bar, the Marathon bar, or Now and Laters. Not too many people remember the Seven Up bar when I mention it. It was one of my favorites as a kid! I, too, would break off the sections one by one and eat.
I was a kid back around 1978and my brother worked at the gift shop at our local hospital and he would bring me home one every few days they were the most awsome candy ever,so allthese years later i was thinking about them and started asking if anyone ever herd of them and people acted like i was crazy so I googled it and found this great site so the the little chubby kid from the day gets the last laugh thanks for site and lets start a petion to get these back the world would be much better place lol.
Many, many times I have thought of this candy bar with longing. I have described to people who had never heard of it (it was before their time) and they, too, said it would be wonderful to taste a candy bar like that. I can’t tell you how MANY of the Seven Up bars I’ve bought in my young life. There was no other candy bar like it and there hasn’t been since. So, I’m begging the “powers that be” to bring this wonderful candy bar out of retirement and introduce it to a whole new generation of candy lovers and reintroduce to us Seven Up lovers who miss it SO much! Please, pretty please, with orange jelly, maple, coconut, fudge, cherry and Brazil Nut on top, um, I mean in the center! LOL!

The 7-up bar could not have disappeared in the 1970′s because I remember buying them, fresh too, in the 1980′s. I really miss that bar….AHHHHH…..
Think I’ll write to have 7-up bring it back. Greedy capitalists wanting it back just because they want to keep their stupid trademark name!!! It’s not like people stopped buying these remarkable candy bars!!

Thank goodness for the internet. I’ve tried for years (I’m 51) to explain the Seven Up bar to friends, and they looked at me as if I were crazy — they thought I was making it up! I remember several things about it:
1.) It was hard to find. The only place I could get one was at a little drug store near my grandmother’s house. So, visiting her always meant a chance at a Seven Up bar — and, of course, she always bought me one.
2.) It was available in both milk and dark chocolate — I remember liking the dark version slightly better.
3.) As with most people, I found that the jelly filling was the one that really stood out — even thought it wasn’t usually one of my favorite fillings in other candy, it just somehow worked in the Seven Up, next to all those other fillings.
4.) It was THE BEST!!!
I am surprised to find out that it survived into the 70′s. I was buying them around 1964-1966, and I never saw one after that.
Glad to have proof that I wasn’t just imagining it — and I sure wish I could get a Seven Up bar today.
I too remember this candy being available in the 80′s. I remember distinctly that Reid’s drugstore (a local shop)carried them. It was my mother’s all time favorite candy bar and I liked them too.
I have mentioned this candy bar to friends and my wife’s relatives and everyone thinks I am crazy and making stuff up because they have NEVER heard of this candy. I am glad I can point to some others who have heard of this candy.

Oh, my GOSH! For decades I have thought that I was hallucinating because nobody I ever spoke to remembered the Seven Up bar. It was my absolute FAVORITE. Thank you so much for confirming that I was not out of my mind and they really did exist. REALLY BUMMED to know they no longer make them. Maybe we can all bombard the company with requests to bring it back under a different name. Keep hope alive! : )
I used to get mine at the Jewel-Osco in Racine, WI, before it disappeared and became Shopko. This was likely in the late 60′s early 70′s when I was just a pup using mom’s money, so I have no idea when they may have stopped producing them.

I loved that candy. It was my mom’s favorite in the late 50′s and 60′s. We would go for a treat to the candy counter at Woolworth’s and she would by the both of us one of the wonderful bars. I just returned to a new retro candy store just opened and asked about them. This was a fairly young person and was told they had never heard of them. Glad there are others who remember those with fond memories.
This was one of my favorite candy bars; it was like getting a box of chocolates that you didn’t have to share. It is truly a shame that these no longer exist. Like hershey bars, I used to try to savor each section to see if I could make the candy bar last all day (it must have been all the talk of rations my parents lived through). Anyway, as hard as I tried, it was darn hard to make those sweet confections last. ;-)
I, too miss the Seven Up candy bar!! It was the best candy bar ever made. It is sad to hear that the pop company 7-UP bought it out just for the use of the name. I had no idea! Shame on them, I will not buy their products from now on. I try to explain to my kids what that candy bar was like; too bad they will not experience it like I did at their age. I can remember buying it at the local grocery store and at the nearby convenience store which is now a 7-11. Let’s start a petition to bring it back!!
I thought I was the only one who remembered them…my dad would bring them home for us, if we had good behavior. That was my favorite! Thanks for explaining what happened to them-I kind of figured that, based on the name. If only they would bring them back…
Im origionally from mass.I was doing a search on sky bars and found your page here.This week i went to the store Yummies in maine and bought a whole box of skybars.I seemed to have thought that there were more than 4 pieces when i was a kid. Anyways i dont remember sevenup bars.but if your looking for any sort of hard to find candy.This store yummies has it all. their saying is…

Finally! I know I was remembering that candy bar…the last one I bought was at the Dahls Store (grocery store in Des Moines, IA)in the 80′s….Now I have proof…I really wish that they would bring it back….I miss all of the flavors….
thank you, thank you!!! everyone I talk to about this kept saying I was talking about the Skybar. An I knew it was not that. In the late 70′s early 80′s my dad used to take me to a car museum in Lake county IL (not there anymore) and they had a candy machine that had them. I thought it was the coolest candy bar, and wish it was still around. I don’t understand why all the good things go away. Now I can prove to my wife among others, what I was talking about. Maybe someone with $$ can bring it back….. till then – I’ll just dream about them.
I loved the Seven Up Bar! I was telling a co-worker about it and she had never heard of it either. So we decided to look it up and see if it is around somewhere to buy. I was sad to see it is not. I can remember my Grandma walking to the Five and Dime store in Ste. Genevieve, MO and buying me a Seven Up Candy bar and I thought it was the best candy bar ever. I would talk my Dad into buying them for me when he went into the “Little Store” and he would but even after all these years I remember him getting into the car and saying they didn’t have any and he bought me a different candy bar and I was sad. After several more trys looking at the Five and Dime and the “Little Store” I gave up. I am all for brining this candy bar back! Come on 7Up bring back this wonderful candy bar!
I got a hold of the company that made them and they said the reason they stopped making them is because it was too expensive. The machine to make the seperate sections kept breaking down.
The Seven Up bar was my favorite candy bar in the 70s! It was almost like a mini box of assorted chocolates, all in one bar!

OH MAN…I feel sorry for all those that did not get a chance to enjoy the Seven Up Bar. My family still talk about those and wish they were still available. We were trying to remember the seven different sections and that is how I came across this website. I had no clue that there were people just like us that still crave those bars.
I had the same experience with the Seven-Up bar in my childhood as Julie did. I still remember this candy bar vividly almost 40 years later. I have a great fondness for the old school candy bars by the smaller manufacturers. Maybe one of these candy loving companies will pick up the gauntlet and try and recreate this candy…
I use to ask people all the time if they remebered this candy bar, nobody ever did. Thank you for the nice memmories. I never understood why another company doesnt use the idea to come up with another candy bar.
I remember the Seven-up bar as being more square than a bar (in the 50′s-60′s) ….with the Brazil nut in the middle. they must have had different versions over the years.
So glad I found this sight. My husband thought I was crazy. He said that there could not be a candy bar with this name. Thanks for proving I was not dreaming!!!!

i have mentioned this candy bar, like many others here, and no one remembers it. finally, my carpool buddy remembered it and found this site. if only someone would/could revive it! i would get a box today if they were available.
Like John, I remember the Seven-up Bar being more square. I also remember the ones I got were dark chocolate. I bought them at Central Drug Store in Norfolk, VA in the early 60′s. Thanks for recalling what all the centers were – I had forgotten them except I did remember the distinctive jellied orange! I was also wondering if I was the only person to remember these bars. I remember going to the local drug store [Eldon's],in Seelyville,Indiana and finding a different candy bar, that was better than the rest. This was during the 60′s and 70′s and of course that was the SEVEN-UP candy bar. I remember it in the milk chocolate only. I don’t remember the dark chocolate. It was the best candy bar made. Just like the 7oz green glass bottles of the the drink 7up, the best soda ever made, I would love to have it again. I read

My father talks about these candy bars fondly. He remembers them well. I wish I could get my hands on one and give it to him. I bet his face would light up. I would also like to try it. I am too young to have had one.
I just ate a chocolate from a friend in France and it was “jelly orange.” As soon as I tasted it, my mouth said,”I have tasted this before, a long time ago.” I thought it was from a 7-Up bar, but wasn’t sure until I googled it and found this site. I too vote for it to come back!!! All the stores in little old Traer, Iowa sold it way back when!!!
How I loved this candy bar!!! I was just hoping I could find one of those retro candy stores that sold it. Did not know about the 7-up story, that was interesting. I agree, it’s to bad our kids do not get to share in the experience of such a yummy candy bar. It is fun though to go back in time to relive those special memories!
Fun reading these posts. The old Seven Up with the brazil nut was my favorite also. Had two squares on each end and the brazil nut in middle with a long narrow piece on each size of nut. Awesome.
I grew up in Albuquerque, NM, and as soon as I would get my .25 allowance, I would run down to the corner Rexall Drug Store and get a Seven Up Bar, a Big Hunk, a Zero bar, a box of candy cigarettes and then spend the rest on Boston Baked Beans, Bit o’Honey, Atomic Fire Balls, Cinnamon toothpicks, Nik L Nip wax bottles filled with flavored liquid or other penny candy.
The Seven up bar was my favorite also. Every time I see a bag of Bridge Mix, I buy it and reminise about the orange jelly, Brazil nut, maple, carmel, coconut, fudge and cherry pieces of the seven up bar.

I was just chatting with my friend and we were talking about being kids and then talked about candy from the past. I thought about this and searched for it by putting “7 flavors in one candy bar” and found this. Finally! Just like the rest of you, I mentioned this and no one remembered it. After all these years I wondered if I found some magic candy bar that no one else in the world ate. Thank you so much for finding this….I can show my brother that I’m not a nutcase…lol. I did remember the name and also thought they had to get rid of it because of the soft drink.
This was the most super delicious fantastic candy bar in the world. I wish they’d bring it back.
I live in Australia and we have a chocolate kind of like it.
It’s called Cadbury Snack.

Also they aren’t all a “chunk” of chocolate. The pinapple “chunk” of chocolate. The pinapple is pinapple shaped, the Turkish Delight is a dome with lines and they all have like patterns and stuff on them.

It’s only got four flavours in the picture. I can’t remember the first one, but the second is Turkish Delight, the third is strawberry and the last one MIGHT be caramel.
I can’t remember them, ever, only a few, but I love them all!
Oh the memories that you have just brought back into my life! All HAPPY! My Dad would always let us buy one candy bar when we went for long trips and this was my choice every time! I too remember the Orange Jelly..it was unlike any other Orange Jelly candy out there!
Maybe we should forward this string to the 7-up company and request a comeback! I was just saying that I would buy it no matter what the cost!!

I remember this great candy bar when I was a kid about 8 to 10 years old living in Joplin Missouri. When we moved back to Durant Oklahoma I noticed there wasn’t any to be found in our area.My wife that I started dating in 1968 never heard of them and I don’t feel like I can describe the flavor to her but thanks to this site everyone did it for me. I would buy a case and give one to all the people I love the most, starting with my wife, yes, the same one from 1968. The best thinf the 7-up company can do is bring it back.
I am so delighted to read all of these responses. The 7 Up Candy bar has been in my memory all of my life. I am the best candy bar ever. I may be wrong, but I think the candy bar did disappear in the 70′s. I never quit looking for it, and I seem to remember it coming back for a short time in the 80′s, it was not the same. Also, noone ever seemed to remember the7 Up. I can now feel much better to know how many people did enjoy The Best Candy Bar EVER March 2010

I have searched for a long time to find any information about the Seven Up bar. The only one I have found is the Skybar and it is only four sections. No one else I have asked, even those older and whom I grew up with, remember this candy bar.
I, too, wish it were still available.

Getting to read all these short stories has been a blast for me… I am also a sixties kid that loved my seven up bars. Saturday morning would usually find me and my brother taking a little hike up to 10th and Meridian to a shopping center… (after cartoons of course!) where we could spend our two bucks for the week… I rarely would consider getting something different than the 7-up bar but if I did it would be a cherry mash or an ole henry.
The jelly was hands down my favorite part and I would eat my way around that section so I could save it for last.

I have been thanking about this seven-up bar so much . Every time I ask my family about it they say they to do not rember it this was my favorite candy bar . The first one I ever had was in Shelbyville Ky at a little gas station we was going to see my uncle that was in a nursing home I was about 5 or 6 . I do not like very many candies , but I loved this one . I never knew till know what happened to it I would be much happer with the seven-up bar than there drink. I thank all of us should send them our letters . I am so glad to have found all of your stories . I too thought I was crazy because anyone I ask says they never heard of it . I’m 49 years of age and from a small town.As a child (5 thru 10) I would run to the candy section of the general store and fetch a 7-up candy bar, my favorite of all candy bars. I wish they were still around for myself and others who enjoy candies such as Whitmans samplers.
