As a woman trying to watch her daily calorie intake, I have frequently purchased 100 calorie snacks. These low-calorie snacks are a relatively new phenomenon for the weight-conscious individual. You can find 100 calorie boxes of all sorts of snacks and cookies these days. The Nutty Bar is like a Kit Kat with peanut butter added to the layers of chocolate and wafers, but on a larger scale. It is definitely candy bar worthy. At 12 to a box with a cost of less than $2.00 per box, they’re very reasonable to purchase for your every day snack food.
The 100 Calorie Nutty Bars are definitely smaller than the regular Little Debbie Nutty Bars. They are thinner and only come one to a pack instead of two to a pack. When looking at the nutritional information of the regular Nutty Bars you’ll find a double bar is 310 calories. Simply packaging one at a time would create a 155 calorie bar, so naturally they had to make some modifications to lower the calories. The 100 calorie bar is thinner overall and might even have a thinner layer of chocolate around the bar. The taste though, is very good.
It tastes almost identical to a regular nutty bar. The wafers are thin and crunchy, the peanut butter is sweet and delicious and the thin layer of chocolate around the bar seems to be the perfect amount. The only complaint I could even think to give, and this is a big stretch, is that the chocolate melts very easily because the layer is so thin. I haven’t really had this problem, however, because I eat them so quickly.
As a big fan of peanut butter and chocolate candy, I thought this 100 calorie nutty bar was superb. My husband, who has never eaten any of my 100 calorie snacks, loves these and usually eats two at a time. Hey, that’s still 200 calories instead of the 310 in a regular Nutty Bar. That sounds pretty good to me.
Some other unnamed 100 calorie snacks are really not very tasty. Some of them are honestly not worth eating even if they are only 100 calorie snacks. Little Debbie 100 calorie Nutty Bars are definitely my favorite 100 calorie snack so far. Good job, Little Debbie!
Wonderful review! I have bought this several times, and it is a great way to watch that caloric intake! I also adore the Little Debbie 100 calorie fudge brownies…I am thinking that they are the same as the regular ones that they have for sale, but they individually wrap each one for portion/calorie control. I am also digging the 100 calorie Coke cans ( the are regular, 8oz Cokes), which I know is not candy related, but works well to wash down the Nutty Butty! What a sin! LOL ;)
March 25th, 2008 at 2:23 amMy only problem with the 100 calorie snacks is… I usually want more than one package, but not quite two packages…. like 1.5 packages, but I, of course, end up eating all of the second package because I don’t want any to go to waste/waist. Gull-durn “finish-everything-on-your-plate” mentality. Gull-durn extra 100 calories in my “100-Calorie” packs
March 25th, 2008 at 10:34 amI bought some of the 100 calorie carrot cake muffins, they went moldy before I could eat the second pack. I hadn’t even had them for a week. :(
March 25th, 2008 at 10:19 pmthat does sound good! but i gotta strongly recommend reading this book called The Diet Cure by Julia Ross; it has really good information about what diet-control/dieting behavior actually harms us, and really strong nutritional and health information that we all need but which is sadly missing from a lot of places in our society….
March 25th, 2008 at 11:00 pmso i was SO very excited to find these at target yesterday, because i am a huge nutty bar fan and also trying to watch my weight as well… i thought, great, i can have nutty bars in moderation! … and um, sure enough, i ate four bars on the way home. oops. they are just THAT GOOD. unlike a lot of 100 calorie packs (chips ahoy, ahem!), these taste like the real thing – just portion controlled. too bad i can’t eat just one.
