Peeps Orange Creme Eggs

It seems I may be one of the few people in the world who actually likes Just Born’s Peeps. I mean, sure, most Candy Addicts will pop a few at Easter just to say they did, but come on, who would really eat more than two?

Me.

That’s right, I’m here to admit that I’m addicted to Peeps. Yellow, purple, hearts or chicks, I love the sugar covered marshmallow goodness. Imagine my joy, then, when I found a brand new (to me, at least) variety to try this Easter season: Orange Creme Eggs! Ooh, I wonder how they taste…

When I first opened the package of nine oval shaped confections, I was immediately struck by how much the smell reminded me of orange Creamsicles. It was very orange-y, with a few notes of vanilla. I love Creamsicles; so far so good!

Once I wiped the drool off my chin (no, really, I love Creamsicles), I got down to the serious business of tasting. Surprisingly, the flavor was very mild. In fact, I tasted mostly vanilla/marshmallow with only a little tiny bit of orange in there. The aftertaste finally brought out a little bit of the Creamsicle flavor, but not as strongly as I would have expected from the smell. Still, it was nice not to be overwhelmed by the flavor, and I found myself polishing off an entire row of three. Thank goodness for self-control… I could easily have eaten the entire package!

If you see these around this Easter season, I highly suggest you pick up a few – you won’t regret it. Unless, of course, you hate orange and/or marshmallow… but then at least you could use them to make a diorama for this year’s Peep Show!

That sounds kind of gross, but I do have to appreciate both real Peeps and the smell of creamsicles!! I wrote a short story once about someone who kept their Peeps in a wine cellar to age them from year to year. Sadly, in real life I think they just get rock hard.

Hi Brian, this flavor of peeps was brought out last year by Just Born, along with a strawberry cream flavor. We didn’t see the strawberry available this season… only new item from them was the “”spring green”" color peeps… a really cool color we thought would take off, but in our area it did not. Happy Easter!

No, I love peeps too. Delicious. You know that Malcom in the Middle episode where he gets dared to eat 100 peeps…I could do that.

Oh, it’s CandyAddict Confessional again, isn’t it? I, too, am a Peep-aholic, and one who can ingest a healthy (well, I guess that’s a relative term when discussing Peeps) number of those sugary, squishy little guys. Yeah, I had these last year, along with the Strawberry ones, and yeah, I ate a lot of ‘em ’cause I loved them! I prefer my Peeps a few days out of the wrapper for more firm chewiness, and I have to admit, these rocked my world for a little while in all their Creamsicley, days-old glory! But, hmmm, I seem to have missed them this year, so thanks, Caitlin, for sending me to Walgreens…

No disrespect, but I bet you that I am more addicted than you! They are just so great! I mean, what’s better than soft marshmallow covered in super-fine sugar? Uhh… nothing. I usually down one large package (16 bunnies, 15 chicks) at a time and can’t purchase more than one each time I go to the store or i’ll devour each and every one. I buy cases after each holiday so that I have enough to last me into the next season.

Sometimes I feel guilty about eating so many, but then I forgive myself an go on to the next piece. It’s horrible, but I can’t find a Peeps Anonymous in the phone book. All well!
