Candy Review: Cinnabon Cinnamon Pecan Clusters

Cinnabon Clusters

There are certain scents that bring me back to my suburban upbringing. One is the smell of wood-burning stoves in the winter. Another is the smell of freshly-cut grass in the spring. And yet another, strangely enough, is the smell of a mall; more specifically, the sweet smell of a Cinnabon store.

I went through a period in eighth grade where I wanted nothing but Cinnabon. It had just come to our mall, with great fanfare, and like everyone else in my city, I was instantly addicted.

These were no ordinary cinnamon rolls. These were Cinnabons, monsters of sweet, gooey dough filled with Cinnabon’s legendary Makara cinnamon, a warm, spicy cinnamon that is impossible to replicate.

Eating a Cinnabon requires a great deal of energy. They are ginormous and rich, and nearly impossible to finish. I have personally never finished a Cinnabon. Believe me, I’ve tried. But sadly the Cinnabon has always defeated me. I am a Cinnabum, and yet my love for Cinnabons remains intact.

So when Cinnabon Cinnamon Pecan clusters arrived at my house, I was psyched. My eighth grade love came rushing back to me. The clusters come in three different flavors: Cinnamon Caramel Pecan, Cinnamon Mousse Pecan with Dark Chocolate, and Cinnamon Cream with White Chocolate.

Candy Review: Terra Nostra’s Pocket Chocolate Bars

Terra Nostra Organic Pocket Chocolate Bars

As a Candy Addict I have pretty strong cravings for sweets – specifically, chocolate. This can be seen as a good or bad thing depending on your point of view, or for me, depending on my mood. Some days I crave a lot of it, which can be bad, since my motto is “everything in moderation” and it makes me cranky when I want to eat more than I should. I’m sure you all understand the feeling, right?

This is why, yet again, the chocolates over at Terra Nostra have come to my rescue. Not only do they make ricemilk chocolate that makes my milk-free lifestyle a little easier, they’ve now got a new Pocket Bar line so I can feel like I’m eating more chocolate than I actually am. These new cute and wonderfully flavored Pocket Bars bars weigh in at 42 grams, which is nice since I can eat the whole thing without actually eating a more “normal” sized chocolate bar weighing in at 100g. The small size is also extremely portable which makes satisfying my chocolate cravings that much more convenient.

Candy Cocktail: Vodka Skittles

Skittles

By now, you’ve probably heard of some sort of candy and alcohol combination. We have covered several takes on the idea, including chocolate wine, a candy cocktail called a Fish Bowl, the infamous Skittlebrau, and a long list of candy cocktails. If you like Skittles, and you like vodka, Jose at Extra Tasty has a recipe tailored to you.

I’m not much of a hard-liquor drinker, so I haven’t tried this recipe, but apparently the key to a tasty drink is keeping the green (lime) Skittles out of the mix. Another key is patience. If you’re in the mood for a quick party drink, the Vodka Skittles recipe is not for you. However, if you’d like to sit down on a Thursday night and get your Saturday buzz ready, here’s your chance:

Candy Review: Dip Pops

Fall is a time of wonders: the leaves change color, the pumpkins arrive at the patch, and the whirlwind of cheap food and sketchy-rides-with-80′s-metal-soundtracks known as the County Fair rolls into town.

As Templeton once sang in Charlotte’s Web, “A fair is a veritable smorgasboard-orgasboard-orgasboard,” filled with snacks and sweets that people wait all year for.

One of my favorite fair treats is the caramel apple, the gooey snack on a stick that is delicious and, well, somewhat nutritious. I mean, it is an apple, after all. Right?
