Candy Review: Snickers Nut ‘n Butter Crunch

Snickers Nut 'n Butter Crunch

It’s not an everyday event that a new limited edition slips by me. I’m always searching for what the companies are coming out with next. Which is why I was so surprised to walk into my local convenience store and see a Snickers staring at me with a bright and different wrapper. It’s too bad no one with me had a camera, because the double take I made was nothing short of cinematic. How could a new Snickers show up without me knowing about it first?

The new candy on the block is Snickers Nut ‘n Butter Crunch. The wrapper is a bright red-orange with the description: “milk chocolate, peanuts and creamy peanut butter taste.” Sounds interesting! The aroma hints that there’s lots of peanut butter in there. It smells like a Reese’s: sweet chocolate and a salty roasted peanut butter aroma.

Candy Review: Hershey’s Kisses: Malt and Chocolate Marshmallow

Hershey Kisses Chocolate Marshmallow

Am I the only one who is having a hard time realizing it’s December already? It seems the year will be over before we know it! Actually, now that I think about it, I know I’m not alone. I believe Hershey’s knows that the year of the 100th anniversary of Kisses is soon to end and they’re cranking out some new ones to show it!

Enter the new Malt and Chocolate Marshmallow Hershey’s Kisses. I can tell these aren’t made to be associated with the other “holiday” flavors of Kisses because these lack the seasonally decorated packaging. It’s pretty sweet to think that they’re still making these Limited Editions separate from the holiday candies. Many would call that good marketing. Regardless, I’m here to give these newbies a taste!

A Candy Eating Experience: Patchi Chocolates

Patchi Assortment

Patisseries, chocolate shops, candy aisles and gourmet food products are often based first and foremost on the visual experience. Perfect lines of cocoa-dusted truffles, bright packaging, glistening danishes, piles of dark chocolate chips – eating indulgent food is as much about the sensory experience as it is about the food itself.

Patchi is an international (Lebanese in origin) chocolate company which relies heavily on visual stimuli to market their products. Since 1974 Patchi has been producing exquisite-looking confections. The chocolate itself is beautifully wrapped – metallic papers, tiny little ribbons and bows, minuscule silk flowers and even tinier crystal baubles and decorations.

With packaging as gorgeous as this, you almost feel guilty about opening each tiny piece. They even follow fashion trends, with Patchi chocolates sporting different packaging based on the seasons. Absolutely everything about Patchi screams “money” – from the website’s virtual tour of their headquarters (five floors, located in Lebanon) to the shiny, silky-to-touch brown bag my chocolates came in.

Candy Review: Bounty – The Chocolate Bar With Subversive Appeal

bounty_bar_wrapped

Question: what do I have in common with Saddam Hussein? Give up? We’re both big ol’ fans Bounty, a delicious coconut candy bar from Mars. That’s right, as we reported a while ago, when they caught Saddam a few years back, they found his secret stash of Bounty bars, and it turns out I’ve got an identical stash in my fridge. My fellow Candy Addicts, it’s a good thing there’s no such thing as guilt by candy association!

In theory, Bounty is quite similar to a Mounds. It’s a pretty simple construction – just a sweetened coconut center, enrobed in chocolate. But the similarities end there.

Candy Review: Kinder Country

Kinder Country

Kinder is a line of Italian chocolate by Ferrero that has a pretty wide distribution. It’s pretty popular all over Europe and you can find several varieties, including Kinder Bueno and the infamous Kinder Surprise, here in the United States. I spotted this Kinder Country in a local store and decided to give it a try.

The bar is exactly as it’s illustrated on the box: milk chocolate filled with a milky center and cereal pieces. Upon opening the wrapper, the bar has that nice sweet dairy smell that is so common with European chocolates. The taste is up there too: sweet with a strong powdered milk flavor. The creme interior is indeed milky. The texture is a bit fluffy; it feels more like a whipped nougat than creme. The cereal pieces add a nice light crunch and a subtle salty hit.

So overall this European version of a Nestle Crunch/Hershey’s Krackel bar is a nice change of pace. It’s good for when you’re in the mood for something different but want something familiar and reliable.
