Cher and the Candy Man

In this sweet animated number, the world is saved from anger, monsters, and traffic jams by the powers of one man: The Candy Man, of course. With a soundtrack by Sonny and Cher, who cover the classic tune “The Candy Man”, this little gem is a piece of cartoon goodness that will instantly make your day a little happier.

The cartoon reminds us of the powers of The Candy Man: his candy spreads love, happiness, and peace everywhere. His candy holds such powers of course, because he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.

We see evidence of such powers in several scenes. In one such scene, a fight breaks out on a baseball field, and just when it looks like a riot is about to take place, the Candy Man rolls up in his banana car to spread love and rainbows and edible dishes to all. The fight is averted! The game is saved! Huzzah for the Candy Man! He should apply for a job with the MLB, and drive his banana car through the seventh inning of every Red Sox-Yankees game.

There are many wonderful things about this cartoon, but the best part of the video is the comforting message that Cher shares each time she sings about “tomorrow,” which, according to this video, might just possibly be a dystopian society filled with cloud dragons and Tim Burton architecture. Never fear, Cher reminds us, the world can never fall into such darkness as long as candy is around to save the day. Maybe that’s a naive notion, but thanks to Cher’s happy tune, the darling animation, and the happiness that candy has brought into my life, I can’t help but believe it.
