One of the many new products that were being displayed at the All Candy Expo was this new addition to the MARS family: Skittles Chocolate Mix. They were kind enough to give me a few samples and as I walked away from the booth I looked at the package with a strange sense of curiosity and confusion. I’m wondering how this all fits into “Tasting the Rainbow.” Is the new rainbow shades of brown?
Turning the package onto its back, I see it comes in five flavors: S’mores, Chocolate Pudding, Chocolate Caramel, Vanilla and Brownie Batter. How they consider “Vanilla” a chocolate flavor is beyond me. I’m seeing loopholes already and I haven’t even tasted them yet!
Once back home from the Expo, I gathered my courage and decided these strange new Skittles needed to be tasted. When I opened the packet I was surprised. They actually smell a little coffee-ish as opposed to cocoa or chocolate. I was expecting more of a hot cocoa mix of a smell, since they’re chocolate flavored and all, but I guess I was wrong!
I poured them all out and immediately organized them by flavor. The brownie batter and the chocolate pudding were a little hard to tell apart, maybe because I was using bad lighting, but the former is a dark brown and the latter had a reddish tint to it. S’mores was the most common flavor by far and outnumbered the others followed by a tie with brownie batter and chocolate pudding, then vanilla, with chocolate caramel coming in last with only five pieces.
Smores: Sweet at first, but once you start chewing it a graham cracker-like flavor appears. There’s a tiny hint of toastiness to it too. No chocolate flavor to be found.
Vanilla: Very buttery. I feel like I’m eating cake frosting with this. Very, very sweet.
Chocolate Pudding: Pretty flavorless. I chewed these and smacked my mouth quite a few times trying to find the flavor. It’s just sweet, with a hint of cocoa, but it’s practically not there. Disappointing.
Brownie Batter: Ugh… this tastes like… someone took fake, store-bought chemical-y brownie mix and blended in a tablespoon of cold butter. Maybe that’s what brownie batter tastes like to some people, but whoever it was obviously never had the homemade stuff. Yuck.
Chocolate Caramel: Again, this just tastes sweet. I don’t get any chocolate flavor or any sort of caramelized/burnt/milky sugar. Just sweet.
I feel strangely about these. My two favorite flavors of the bunch, the Vanilla and the S’mores, didn’t taste of chocolate at all (not that they should have, considering that only 1/3 of a S’mores is chocolate and vanilla is, well, vanilla) and the other three didn’t even have any flavor – much less chocolate flavor. So try these if you’re curious because they’re not awful by any means. (For the record, I did finish the entire bag.) These just aren’t chocolatey like I expected. I imagine there will be many people who will enjoy these, but I’m just not one of them.

I want the mint ones back. But these sound nasty. chewy chocolate = Riesens
Maybe you have to mix up the Skittles and eat them in a combination like you would Jelly Belly’s so you get the full chocolate flavor! LOL I dunno, I would give these a shot…and if all else fails, I only lost less than a dollar!

I just saw these at a local gas station this morning and bought a pack. The “Chocolate Caramel” seemed more like “Butterscotch” to me, and maybe I’m wrong, but it seemed like the “Vanilla” might have been the base for several of the flavors. Speaking of Vanilla, I wonder what it would taste like when mixed with other “regular” Skittle flavors? Hmm. Thanks for the review (which I only read after I posted my own review.)
I think they all taste like a Tootsie Roll…some are just stronger chocolate tasting than others…the S’mores is the best though, tastes like a toasted marshmallow! Yuumm.

I found that the Smores flavor tasted more like a Tootsie roll than anything else, and the Chocolate Caramel tasted more like hot cocoa. I agree with you that the Brownie Batter wasn’t very good — it tasted rather waxy, like cheap chocolate. However, the Chocolate Pudding was right on the money. That leaves Vanilla, which yes, I agree tasted like vanilla frosting.

Bleh! I tried these last week and didn’t like them at all! I prefer the tropical ones, myself.
i can’t seem to find these where i live. but i tried them at a rest stop in another state. i thought they would be nasty. but then i tried them and loved them. :)
I absolutely love these skittles i have allergies and because of my allergies to wheat i cant have regular because of the modified food starch in them. I sell these and i can barely keep them in stock then name makes people very curios about them so i easily make forty dollars a day just off these skittles. I Love Mars Candy

I have some in front of me and think they are tastey and good. If you have a few at once (not seperating the flavors) they very much taste like chocolate. Perhaps a less OCD method of eating candy would make you like them better.
I just had some. If you take a few of each flavor and pop them into your mouth all at once, it tastes like coffee (when it’s chewed together of course). I love them :)
haven’t seen them yet in Canada…
they do have the vanilla ones, or they did, in the limited edition Ice Cream flavour packs that they came out with last summer (or the summer before) there was vanilla, peach vanilla, strawberry vanilla, and i think a banana split flavor)
hope to try the chocolate ones soon when I am in NY for Easter.

Im not gonna lie but this product does not taste good at all. I think that the producers are going to lose a lot of money because nobody is gonna buy this product once they try it. I am no expert here but Im just throwing it out there: “this is the worst product they have ever made”. Stick with the regular or tropical because they are great tasting and dont waste your money on the chocolate ones, you are just going to regret that you bought these.
Picked up some of these and they are the BEST. Love them. Trouble is, i don’t eat candy in general. (One reason I was able to lose 70 pounds) But, they taste great.

Nasty!!! I had high hopes for these but they are disgusting.
I finally found a bag of these and when buying them, commented to the guy behind the register that I’d read mixed reviews of them on CandyAddict.com (I’m always tossing this site’s name around!). He said, “We think they taste best if you eat them all at once, together.” So, I tried each flavor individually to see what I thought and I liked them. Then I tried a handful together and liked them that way, too. They DO taste more chocolatey in a handful as opposed to one at a time. The Brownie Batter one is MUCH better mixed with the others; it’s the only one that was kinda “icky” to me, but I still liked it! I’ll definitely eat these again; I love all Skittles! I’d like to mix them with some of the fruit flavors…that’d be fun!

Eaten one piece at a time, it’s hard to distinguish the flavors. Initially, the brownie batter ones made me grimace. Eating about four at once, I got more of the jist of what they were going for. I almost got a brownie batter vibe. The chocolate caramel are like Sugar Babies when ingested en masse. The s’mores kinda creeps up on ya with the “s’mores” flavor. The chocolate pudding was like yucky canned pudding. By far the tastiest is the vanilla.
All in all, I was disappointed, but glad I tried them. I agree that perhaps eaten in combonation they might be tastier, but when it comes to multicolored candies, with the exception of Jelly Bellies, I am generally a segregationist.
I really liked chocolate skittles. i bought them on my break today and personally, my favorites were Brownie Batter and S’mores. :D

I just saw them at Wal-mart and thought I’d try them. They said they were only 56 cents, but I noticed my receipt says I got charge 64c.
Everyone has a different taste, and I agree with those of you who HATE THESE.
When tried individually, these are all nasty.
When eaten all together…I spit them out in the trash and quickly drank some Mountain Dew. When that didn’t get the taste out, I grabbed an Ice Breakers mint and chewed it up real quick.
Then I threw the rest of the bag in the trash.

I personally think skittles should be fruity….not chocolaty!!!! That sounds really gross to me…sorry I am a big Skittle fan but chocolate skittles!!! EWWW…..
I was hoping they would be chocolate-fruit flavored, sort of like chocolate-orange or chocolate-raspberry. I am more than a bit disappointed.
My boyfriend just bought the huge reclosable 41 ounce bag of chocolate skittles…wow they are really disgusting.. some things should remain fruity. They are not worth getting saddle bag thighs for.

When I first heard about these I thought they were going to be chewy chocolate with a fruit flavored shell… like when you get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. But instead they are really horrible. The company totally missed the make with Chocolate Skittles…YUCK!

What the hell is wrong with these people? I thought this would be awesome, but its not. I sometimes eat skittles mixed with M&MS and its delicious, this however, is not. Skittles/M&Ms taste like those fruit cream filled chocolates you get in those expensive boxes of chocolate, only for 1/10th the price. Just take 3-4 of one color skittles, and 3-4 M&Ms, and eat them all at once. Delicious, and what chocolate skittles SHOULD be.
I hate these things. I am the king of guy who buys a bag a candy and does not stop until I am done with all of it. Not the case with these absolutely aweful things. They are still in my office drawer and I do not plan on eating more of these any time soon. The person who came up with this idea should be fired for damaging the reputation of skittles.

For me, these are just gross. I gave them a shot, but they were just vile.
I tried Australian Smoothy flavored Skittles in 2004 and they were very similar to these, except they had a Lime smoothy flavor – that was the only one I could tolerate, and even that was gross.
Barf. a co-worker brought these in to work. . . chocolate should most def not be in chewy form. the flavors all tasted like crayons. waxy and a bit like tootsie rolls.

I saw these in the vending machine at work… I thought I better buy two bags before they all get bought out… Well I was snacking on the fist bag, thinking they were alright, but not really sure… couldn’t figure out if I liked them or not… Usually a bad sign, lol… Well, after finishing the bag, I still wasn’t sure if I liked them… but after awhile, the taste would not go away from my throat, and it just kept getting worse… I luckily had my toothbrush & toothpaste with me, so I was able to brush my teeth and get that awful taste out. After that, I could never even look at another chocolate skittle, I gave the other bag away.
