Gummi Bear Soap

Naiad's Gummi Bear Soap

Being a typical guy, I probably give about half a second’s thought per month to hand soap. I’ve been using a seemingly endless bottle of Dial for probably the better part of a decade. Every time I go under the sink to refill the dispenser, there never seems to be any less than before.

I stumbled on these Gummi Bear soaps the other day and it actually made me want to wash my hands with one of these bears. Naiad, a user on Etsy (a site for selling handmade crafts) has mini Gummi Bear soaps for sale in her store.

The soaps, which are the same size as actual Gummi Bears, are even scented to correspond with the flavors they would normally be (i.e. whitish is pineapple, etc.). You get 25 tiny Gummi Bear soaps, in a bulk candy package, for only $5. You can’t go wrong at that price, though I’d be tempted to eat them, instead of washing my hands with them. Better keep them away from kids! Washing your hands before dinner is going to seem like dessert.

Naiad also has some chocolate-themed soaps like chocolate/coffee soap and chocolate/mint soap for sale too.

I just emailed her and she said she has lots in stock so if you want some and it says sold out, just contact her and ask about it.

New Candy Addict Staff Page

Given that we are probably going to bring on some new writers soon, I figured now was a good time to unveil our new staff page. Be sure and click on each person’s name to read about him/her. Take a look and let me know what you think.

While we’re talking about the site, I added a new little widget to the right column – it shows you how many people are reading the site right now and if you click on it you can see what pages are being viewed. I thought it was pretty cool. Here it is:

Candy Review: Chocolate Covered Potato Chips and Popcorn from Sugar Plum

Sugar Plum chocolates

Ahh, the age old conundrum: sweet vs. savory. I face it every time I go out for breakfast, but I never considered it an issue with candy. After all, candy is and should be sweet, right? Well, leave it to Pennsylvania-based Sugar Plum to mess with my reality. I recently received samples of two products: Chocolate Popcorn and Hand-Dipped Chips in Belgian Chocolate.

Sugar Plum chocolate-dipped potato chips

When I opened the box of chips, I have to confess that I wasn’t particularly excited. Chocolate-dipped potato chips sounded a little fussy and gifty, and I figured neither the chocolate nor the chips would be of very high quality. Well, I was wrong! I took a bite, and I have to say that these chips rocked my world. I cannot even express how delightfully delicious the combination of the salty ruffled chip with the dark chocolate is. The chocolate is smooth and flavorful and perfectly complements the crunchy chip. I had to push the box away from me so that I wouldn’t polish off the entire contents in one sitting. Yes, my friends, these are indeed awesomely addictive.

Sugar Plum chocolate-drizzled popcorn

The Chocolate Popcorn is also pretty darn tasty. Now, it’s well-nigh impossible to mimic the texture and flavor of fresh popcorn, so it’s no surprise that some of the popcorn pieces in Sugar Plum’s Chocolate Popcorn are a tad on the soft and stale side. That did not, however, stop me from enjoying the concoction. There is a healthy drizzling of both dark and milk chocolate on the popcorn, resulting in great little clusters. The only thing lacking was salt (and maybe butter) on the popcorn – I think the addition of some salt would have kicked it up another notch on the delicious scale.

You can buy these and many more delicious treats at Sugar Plum’s website or at igourmet.com.

Candy Review: Assorted Candy from the Melville Candy Company

Melville Red Lobster

Free candy samples are always nice to receive, but the Melville box provided a uniquely fun experience. The Melville pops and spoons were so fun to look at that I was hesitant to try them because I didn’t want to ruin them. Melville gets big points on packaging and creative molding. The handles of the spoons are nice wood, and each candy pop is wrapped in thick cellophane and secured with a gold twist-tie. Definitely an aesthetically pleasing product.

The Old Tyme Barley Pops are very well done. The animal shapes are respectably realistic, and I made sure to tell my friends who shared the candy that the lobsters were not seafood flavored (that sure would be gross, wouldn’t it?). I liked the selection of animals and flavors. Each pop is weighty and dense with only tiny air bubbles in the candy.

The Chocotelegram

Chocotelegram

In this great technologically-advanced world, it’s nice to know that one older form of communication has endured, albeit in a slightly tastier form. Naturally, I refer to the telegram and its newest incarnation, the Chocotelegram.

Available in numerous preselected phrases or as a personalized message, it’s the perfect way to make up for that forgotten birthday, or even get a few points ahead in your loved one’s esteem. By using individual squares of Belgian chocolate with letters, numbers, or shapes, nearly any message of up to 60 characters can be created.

I, for one, would certainly love to receive one of these. Of course, I’d be even more impressed if they could make it out of licorice (would that be a Licorogram?) … now that would be yummy!
