Swimming Pool Cake made with candy

Swimming Pool Cake

Last week, my wife made a swimming pool cake that required a bunch of candy to decorate it. It was for a swimming pool party so she made a swimming pool cake! If you go to this Flickr page, you can see a better picture – be sure and mouseover the picture and see all the notes I atatched telling what each candy is. I also added a bunch of pictures to the Candy Addict photo gallery.

Here is a list of the candy used:

Here is the complete recipe with a photo at Woman’s Day magazine. My wife took some creative liberties with it, but this should get you started if you want to make one too.

  1. Woman’s World magazine showed how to do a similar cake a few years ago, right down to the icing swimsuits on the Teddy Grahams. I might still have the issue lying around.

RESPONSE: She found it in Woman’s Day magazine. Here is the link to the picture (recipe link at bottom of page).

  2. That’s really cool, you probably had a hard time carefully putting that jello into the center like that. I have to remember how to do that for some obscure reason I have to make a swimming pool cake lol. Thanks for the pic Brian!!

  3. HI,

Is the recipe and complete directions available for the “Swimming Pool Cake?” How do you make the
    water using the jello ?

Thank You, for your prompt reply

RESPONSE: I updated the article with better links

  4. Wow, this is a great idea. I was looking online for a swimming pool cake for my 1-yr old’s birthday party, since he just started going into the pool recently. What a great idea! Thanks again…

  5. My Daughter has requested a Pez Candy birthday theme for her 4th birthday this year. I have looked online but can’t find any creative ideas…I need help! I thought it was a GREAT idea on her part but have no idea how to throw together a Pez Party with decorations and a cake. Any suggestions?

  6. Brian,
Can you tell me the size of your wife’s cake was and was it two layers? Also, did the jello make the cake soggy? I’m thinking of filling in the pool part with blue icing instead of jello.

Thanks. My son loves the photos of this cake.

  7. Wow! This one is really exceptional..see for years, I’ve wanted to make a swimming pool cake. The idea of gelatin sitting on top of a cake was intriguing. Ever since I’ve mentioned one of these cakes to my daughter, she’s longed to decorate one. After some incredibly hot and boring days at home together and now after looking at yours finally we too have decided to make a swimming Pool Cake.

  8. I love the candy idea! I was thinking about doing the same idea for my childs idea. Thanks for the idea!!!! The pool is so cool since its made out of jello!

  9. Great! Love it! I was wondering what size of Teddy Graham’s you used. I bought the Minis ang thought it was too small to decorate. Are there particular size?

  10. Its 2008 now and i cannot seem to find the recipe in womans day. How deep is the cake and how was the jelly put in as it looks so smooth. Arecipe or a quick answer would be gret as i plan to make it soon
