Ferrero USA, Inc., has announced Tic Tac Stocking Stuffers which contain two packs each of Freshmint, spearmint and cinnamon in holiday-themed gift boxes with to/from tags. They have a SRP of $2.49.
I haven’t had a Tic Tac in years, though I do remember really liking the orange ones. My question is this – does anyone still buy Tic-Tacs in the age of Altoids, Oral Fixation Mints, and the like? When was the last time you were offered a Tic-Tac? I think I saw Tic-Tacs in the Dollar Store last time I was in there – are they still sold in “regular” stores? Does anyone else remember the Tic Tac song from the commercial? I think it went….”Put a Tic-Tac in your mouth and get a [pop into mouth and make a POP sound] BANG out life!” Man, I’m really showing my age here….and I’m rambling.

Off-topic, but have you ever seen Candy Genius’ Periodic Table of Candy?
RESPONSE: I have – I posted about it here. Don’t you mean Dr. Chinese and not Candy Genius?

Yes, Tic Tacs are still very widely available, as far as I know – they’re at most supermarkets and convenience stores here in Massachusetts. The orange ones still taste great, and that’s largely why I still buy Tic Tacs rather than Altoids or any such thing; the orange flavor is much more pleasant to me than mint, and, just generally, I’m not fond of anything quite so intense as an Altoid. I don’t know how their sales have been doing of late, but I know I’m not about to switch to another breathmint anytime soon.
RESPONSE: Interesting. Maybe in different parts of the country they are more popular. Yeah – I know what you mean about Altoids. They are definitely not my favorite mints. Well, peppermint isn’t. I like their cinnamon flavor.

Sorry — hadn’t seen the archives yet — just began reading yesterday. Gotta love the All Candy All The Time theme, though.
Dr. Chinese/Candy Genius = husband and wife team. She was the force behind the Periodic Table, though.

It’s the clean fresh explosion of mint.

The Mary Tyler Moore show had a tic-tac joke, way back before electricity was invented and we had to watch tv by candlelight. It was an episode where Mary volunteerd to be a Big Sister to a teenage girl who had a history of drug use. At the end of the episode, the girl and another girl are conspiring in the corner and, eavesdropping, Mary hears one say to the other “oh, i LOVE the reds. i haven’t had a red in so long, oh gimme.”
“only if you give me some of the good stuff you got. like those white ones.”
they turn to Mary and ask her if she want one. Mary, given the context, of course presumes they’re talking about pills, and says, “No, no, thank you, I , I don’t believe in doing those”
“What? You don’t believe in tic-tacs?”
So she takes one, tosses it up, and catches it in her mouth (or misses, actually, i think)
All paraphrased, but that’s basically the joke. Who can turn the world on with a smile?
