According to the National Confectioner’s Association, October is Caramel month. Who comes up with these things? Regardless, go out there and eat some caramel to celebrate!
Speaking of caramel, how do you pronounce the word caramel? Is it 2 syllables like kar-mull or is it three like care-a-mel? Let’s have a quick poll – how do you say caramel and where do you live (to see if it’s regional)? I say karmull and I live in NC now (though I have lived all over the place).
And what’s your favorite caramel candy? I’d say for me it’s a tossup between Rolos and Caramel Creams (Bull’s Eyes).
UPDATE: My sister, Amber, reminded me in the comments about Caramel Pecan Turtles. Scratch the Rolos and Caramel Creams. Give me Turtles.
Caramel month? I’d have thought it was Candy Corn month since it’s Halloween and all. But you know, it kind of makes sense. Caramel Apples and all.
Eh, candy. Gotta love the candy.
I say kar-mull as well. My favorite is Caramel Pecan Turtles – dark chocolate ones if you can find it!
I pronouce it CARE-AH-MEL when it’s the gooey stuff inside a Rolo but end up pronouncing it KAR-MUHL when I’m making the toffee-like things myself. I was raised in PA and OH (dunno if that makes a difference or not).
I love, love, love pecan turtles. If I were on a desert island, I think I could live on ‘em.
Howdy candy lovers!! carmel, yes… the best is to take a 9×13 and lay out pretzels, topped with rolo carmel candy, then a pecan. Heat in the oven for approx 3 to 5 minutes at 350. “mush” the pecan down into the melted rolo and then let cool. Yum, yum, eat it up!! It is a quick dessert that looks like it was hard to make :)
Awesome idea, Quarter! I’m going to have to try that!
The Candy Kid
I say CARE-AH-MEL, 3 syllables. I think thats the proper way, but i wanna start saying kar-mel cus its cooler. :P
oops and by the way im from Canada eh
I love ROLOS! Those things are the cause of my cavities :(
I say kar-mull, two syllables, and my favorite caramel candies are Werther’s hard candies. Taste like caramel, without all the gunk stuck in your teeth. Mm!
I sau kar-mull :) I live in Arizona
….How do you say caramel in Japanese? Everytime I look it up it gives me how to spell it in hiragana and such….but I want the translation like this
Dog –> Inu
Cat –> Neko
Like that >..< )
I think that it’s three syllables but said like this: kar-u-mull. its a weird way of pronouncing it and i wasnt raised to say it that way but you could say that i had an epiphany of some sort. otherwise i say Kar-mull im from Minnesota
