Louisville, KY (November 13, 2007) – Candyrific, a 6-year-young novelty candy manufacturer, has caught the eye of financial editors who continually bestow sweet news to these makers of hard-to-resist confections.
For the second year in a row, Candyrific has earned a spot on Inc. Magazine’s 500 list of the nation’s fastest growing private companies. Their Giggle Head candy – part toy, part hard candy – grabbed the attention of Inc. editors and was prominently featured in its September 2007 issue. At just a few dollars a piece, Candyrific’s tasty products added up to $12.9 million for the company in 2006. Inc. magazine reported an 832.2% growth by the Louisville, Kentucky-based company over three years. Amazingly, the company is on track for $20 million in revenues for 2007.
In Louisville, the accolades continued with the No. 2 sweet spot on last month’s annual Fast 50 list as determined by Business First Louisville. The weekly business journal named Candyrific in its October 19 issue as the second fastest growing privately held company in Greater Louisville.
Candyrific’s products feature push buttons, sounds, whirls and spins that consumers (especially those under 4 feet tall) feel the urge to try. With major outlets like Target, Walgreen’s and Blockbuster selling the items for $2 to $4 each, the small company’s experienced sales have consistently doubled every year over the past four years.
CEO Robert Auerbach began the company in 2001 with a spinning fan lollipop. Currently the company sells more than 35 different products around the world and in every state. Auerbach’s business plan includes 850 outlets in addition to the big box chains. He tells Business First Louisville that no single customer represents more than 5 percent of Candyrific’s business. It was a hard lesson learned when his very first customer went bankrupt owing the start-up $140,000 and never paid.
Auerbach prides himself on all products having a high perceived value, are merchandized in colorful displays and are especially popular with collectors. Today Candyrific features licensed and non-licensed products ranging from Looney Tunes, X-men, Tweety! to Spiderman. Last month the company announced two new M&M’s Brand collectibles, sold in 12-pack displays and a master case holding 72 units. Their newly launched M&M’s Brand Etch A Sketch allows consumers to create pictures while enjoying a chocolate treat.
It gives new meaning to the concept that you can have your cake (candy) and play with it, too.
