Organic confections offer children all natural treats with no tricky ingredients
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Sweet Earth Chocolates is pulling no tricks and offering all natural treats this Halloween with their exclusive Fair Trade and Organic chocolate. Screaming Fair Trade is Boo-ti-ful, Sweet Earth Chocolates has scrumptious bags of mixed milk and bittersweet disks that every child will enjoy this season and, in the process, they will be helping impoverished West African children who farm the cacao.
“Halloween is a time to celebrate being a child, dressing in costume and consuming a favorite treat,” says Tom Neuhaus, founder of Sweet Earth Chocolates. “For the children of West Africa, it’s just another work day. Most of these children have never tasted chocolate. We want to make their lives a lot sweeter.”
As part of their company philosophy to “Do No Harm” to the earth or the farmers that supply their product, Sweet Earth Chocolates will give a portion of their Halloween sales to the non-profit Project Hope and Fairness, an organization that supports impoverished West African cocoa farmers that supply more than 75% of the world’s cocoa. The funds will be earmarked to help farm children that can’t afford an education go to school.
Sweet Earth’s Fair Trade is Boo-ti-ful bags come packaged in 10-piece half milk chocolate, half 65% bittersweet and 30-piece half milk chocolate, half 65 % bittersweet. For those who need large quantities to pass out neighbors and friends, Sweet Earth has bulk bags of 100 disks. The Halloween packages, as well as more than 45 additional products including bark, truffles and peanut butter cups, can be purchased online at www.sweetearthchocolates.com.
All of Sweet Earth Chocolates are natural with no chemicals, preservatives, or artificial flavoring and fair trade certified. Their Fair Trade-certified cocoa only comes from certified farmers’ cooperatives, organized to strengthen their farmer-members economically so they can provide for their families and educate their children.
To raise awareness of Fair Trade chocolate, certification and the instances of abusive child labor associated with non-Fair Trade Chocolate trade, Sweet Earth Chocolates is participating in the reverse trick-or-treating program developed by Global Exchange, a non-profit human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic and environmental justice around the world. Sweet Earth Chocolates donated 5,000 chocolate disks with informational cards that will be passed out by thousands of children as they trick-or-treat. For each and every non-fair-trade candy they receive, they will hand back a card to which is attached a milk chocolate disk manufactured by Sweet Earth Chocolates, Inc. Bags of these cards and disks will be mailed by Global Exchange to participating organizations, such as churches and schools.
Award-winning Chocolate
Sweet Earth Chocolates’ 65% bittersweet bar took up top honors at a San Francisco Chronicle blind taste and baking test in 2006, beating out big name chocolate brands including Ghirardelli, Lindt, Nestle Chocolatier, E. Guittard and Scharffen Berger. Sweet Earth is also an official provider of chocolate to Google, shipping more than 20,000 milk and bittersweet chocolate disks per month for employee enjoyment.
