Sucre is the kind of shop that I wish I had nearby. It’s a cute shop located in New Orleans that specializes in sweets, mostly of the chocolate variety. Sucre makes a large variety of bonbons, each one looking more tantalizing than the next. They kindly sent me a small sampling, and after opening the box, I didn’t know if I should eat them or just admire them: they’re so pretty!
Sucre’s bonbons are also tiny, so much so that I was reminded of toys and after taking my photos of them, I had an urge to play with them. That would have been a bad idea for several reasons, with the more obvious being that these are carefully crafted and are quite delicate. I had chipped one of the painted decorative tiles in just moving a bonbon from the box. Tucking my playful urges aside, I read the included flavor pamphlet and tried to identify my assortment. I had nine bonbons to decipher from a list of twenty four different types. On with the tasting!

I’m always excited to see a new version of Hershey’s Kisses using white chocolate since I’m a huge fan of the stuff. I remember when Hugs first premiered back during my childhood and I was so excited to have white chocolate stripes in Kiss form. I couldn’t wait to try them. Had I known Hershey’s would continue to roll out new flavors of white chocolate Kisses, well, it would have made me one impatient little girl.
I haven’t been as exited about white chocolate Kisses since the Strawberry Creme flavor way back last year. The Orange creme, Candy Corn, Caramel creme, Confetti, Toffee Crunch all left much to be desired and the flavor variety was kinda ho-hum. I have high hopes for these since I’ve had lemon white chocolate before in sundry bonbons and gourmet bars before and it was just a heavenly combination. I was fully confident that Hershey could successfully pull off this simple, yet sophisticated flavor combination in a Kiss quite easily.

Neapolitan Kisses
I heard about these Kisses recently thanks to a reader and I immediately began a quest for them. The quest didn’t last long since they were being advertised by my local CVS Pharmacy. Seems like these days there’s another new “Limited Edition” candy practically every day - and Hershey’s Kisses seem to be leading the pack. Perhaps their small size, and short ingredient list allow the folks at Hershey to experiment, test, and sell flavors at a faster rate than a more complicated candy would allow.

Again with the limited edition Hershey’s Kisses! Will they ever end? Let’s hope not, because all the special flavors give us an ongoing excuse to purchase them. Anyway, the other day I was leafing through piles of Sunday newspaper advertisements when something in the Target circular caught my eye–Hershey’s Limited Edition Kisses in orange creme flavor! The circular claimed this flavor was a Target exclusive! How does Target do it? I mean, you know that Target has the exclusive red marshmallow Peeps, right? Red! How cool is that! But I digress. I scampered off to Target in search of the orange creme Kisses and was promptly rewarded.

Aren’t they lovely? They taste quite lovely as well. They reminded me a bit of the limited edition Dreamsicle (or was it Creamsicle?) flavor of Frangos. The orange creme Kiss is white chocolate with stripes of orange-flavored white chocolate. It has a pleasant orange flavor that blends nicely with the white chocolate. I detected a hint of vanilla, too. Though they are tasty, they are also quite sweet, so you can’t eat too many of them without getting sugar overload. Now I am kind of craving orange creme soda, Creamsicles, and those little orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream cups. I think these orange creme Kisses may have started something …

Ask and you shall receive! At least that’s how I feel after discovering that Hershey’s has released two more limited edition kisses in time for Valentines Day. The two new flavors are Special Dark Raspberry and Strawberry Creme, the latter being the cause of my extreme excitement. It was only a few short weeks ago that I shared my enjoyment of the Special Dark Strawberry Kisses with you and even mused about a white chocolate version. There seems to be greater forces at work here…
After scouring my usual haunts in search of this new Strawberry Kiss, I finally found them in Target, where it was cleverly displayed near the registers. I had a hard time keeping myself from tearing the bag open right then and there! I knew patience is a virtue, so I decided to wait to try them after dinner when I knew I could appreciate their flavor to the fullest.

The visuals, at least, do not disappoint. Hearts and lace aside, they are really romantic looking Kisses if I’ve ever seen one. Similar to the Hugs and the Candy Cane Kiss, these have the standard white base but are now decorated with brink pink stripes. The smell of strawberry when opening the bag is similar to the dark chocolate strawberry version. Upon tasting the Kisses, I can now say with confidence that they did use the same strawberry flavoring as the Dark Strawberry. I was let down though by how the white chocolate mixed with it. It has a cheese-cakey sort of taste to it, not the sort of sweet creamy vanilla flavor I associate with white chocolate.
These Kisses are yummy, but not to the extent that I had imagined. These beauties are worth picking up regardless, especially since they are around only for a limited time.

It seems there is an endless stream of variations of Hershey’s Kisses nowadays, and we can add one more to the list: Candy Cane Kisses. I picked up a mini 1.12 oz package at a Walgreen’s for 49 cents about two weeks ago and promptly forgot about them until now.
The Candy Cane Kisses are mint-flavored white chocolate Kisses, with “stripes and candy bites”. Unfortunately, these made of the dreaded (to me anyway) white chocolate, so they don’t really appeal to me. They have a slight mint taste to them, and yes, there are tiny crushed up candy cane pieces in the Kisses, but the combo just doesn’t work for me.
The hint of mint, and the underlying white chocolate taste are enough to turn me off. The candy cane pieces do add an interesting twist to the usual formula, but they’re nothing special and are clearly intended to just be used as stocking stuffers. I don’t envision people going nuts over these like the Cordial Cherry Kisses. The Candy Cane Kisses are “limited edition”, so if you want to give them a try, act fast.
