What you see here is an experiment. I have been toying with the idea of doing some video for the site and I finally did it. I present to you our first ever Candy Addict Video Review. In it I review Gummy Haggis and Gummy Tapeworm from Archie McPhee and Fear Factor Grimy Grubs from Brand New Products, LLC.

Please leave a comment below and give me some feedback on the video. I know it’s not perfect, but it was my first attempt and I think I could get better with practice. Let me know what you think and tell me if it’s a waste of time or if you’d like to see more of these candy videos.

As kids, we all heard the story of King Midas, the greedy king who wished everything he touched turned to gold. It’s a great fantasy until you find the reality of it all. As a Candy Addict, have you ever had the same dream as King Midas, except with candy?

Well, Skittles has the answer for you. It’s a new twist on King Midas’ tale, except that Tim seems less than pleased with his “Skittles Touch.” The commercial itself is quite dark and you can’t help but feel sorry for the poor guy. I guess there’s really more to life than candy for some people. At least he won’t starve to death, right? Right?

… football cream?

Last week’s episode of The Office had a great little candy moment when Andy couldn’t quite remember the rest of the lyrics to the Kit Kat jingle. Observe:

It’s too bad Andy didn’t check online. If he had, he would have easily discovered our list of the Top 10 Candy Jingles, with useful links to the commercials on YouTube. At least he’d know that the song doesn’t advertise a brand of cat food!

I love this commercial. It doesn’t make me want to go out and buy Raspberry Mint Orbit Gum, but it does makes me laugh every time I see it. Here’s a transcript:

Like any true chocoholic, I believe that you can never have too much chocolate. Solid, nutty, cream-filled, fruit-filled, peanut butter, or mint - there’s always room for more! However, I think even I would have trouble finishing Hershey’s latest chocolate creation. To commemorate 100 years of chocolatey goodness, Hershey unveiled “The World’s Largest Hershey’s Kisses Chocolate” on July 7th.

Standing at 12 feet tall, the giant chocolate weighs in at an astounding 30,540 pounds! That, my friends, is a lot of chocolate. This far surpasses the previous largest chocolate record of 15,026 pounds. The Kiss features a seven-foot-long plume reading “100 Years of Kisses”, and is covered in 16,460 feet of foil wrapping to create the traditional look of a Hershey’s Kiss.

It took 152 people nine days to construct the Kiss, which debuted as part of Hershey’s birthday celebration at Hershey’s Chocolate World in Pennsylvania. In case any of you doubt the record-breaking status of this chocolate gargantuan, the Guinness Book of World Records has certified this Kiss as “The World’s Largest Piece of Chocolate.” Take that, Nestlé and Mars!

If you want to get an up close and personal look at “The World’s Largest Hershey’s Kisses Chocolate” in person, you better hurry. It’s only slated to be on display at Hershey Park’s Chocolate World until July 12th! However, if you can’t make it to Pennsylvania to take part in all of the centennial festivities, don’t despair. If the above video was too fast for you, Hershey has provided a slideshow of the making of the Giant Kiss that shows it a bit slower.

One of the local radio stations in my area (G105) is challenging people to try WarHeads super-sour candy and snap a picture of the face you make right after putting it in your mouth. So far, they just have pics of the morning show doing it and no pictures from listeners, but they do have a video up of Kristin, one of the on-air personalities, trying six WarHeads at once. It is one of the funniest candy-related videos I have seen in a while. I laughed out loud multiple times while watching this video. It looks like she is having spasms or is going to hurl. Funny stuff. I feel her pain though.

I don’t know how many times I’ve imitated Mr. Owl when I eat a Tootsie Pop. Something about his eager “One. Two-hoo! A-three.” piqued my interest from a very young age, which meant that the original animated commercial was extremely effective.

Cartoon Brew, an animation blog, recently discovered that this classic commercial received a 3D makeover. Instead of plain ink drawings on a stark background, everything in the new commercial is extremely detailed, from the ground underneath Mr. Turtle’s feet to the leaves on the trees behind Mr. Owl. Unfortunately, the little boy now looks like a mutated Hobbit.

Someone decided to make a movie trailer for a scary movie version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and they posted the results on YouTube. You can see the results above. That boat scene always did give me the creeps.
