Candy Addict on TV as a Candy Expert

The Big Idea

I got an email today from the producer of the CNBC TV show The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. They wanted me to appear in their Minutes to Millions segment as a “candy expert.” So, I’m flying to NY on Monday to film it! How awesome is that? And… one of the other panelists is Kevin Nealon from SNL! I’m not sure if I’m more excited about being on TV or meeting and sitting on a panel with Kevin Nealon!

Hmmm… I just checked Kevin’s website (I just called him Kevin, like we’re all buddy-buddy) and he says he’ll be there at 1:00 AM – I hope his site is wrong because I was told taping starts at 2:00 PM. His first book “Yes, You’re Pregnant but What About Me?” just came out. I should get a copy and ask him if he’ll sign it for me, though I don’t want to appear to be a huge fanboy.

I’ll take lots of pics to show everyone and I’ll post the air date as soon as I find out!

UPDATE: Just found out it will air the same night, Monday, May 19th, 10PM EST.
UPDATE2: I setup Twitter on my phone so I will live Twitter the whole process of going on TV :) Follow my Twitter account.

Black Dog Licorice Art On ABC’s Pushing Daisies

Ken Bailey licorice dog
Is anyone else enjoying ABC’s Pushing Daisies as much as me? My wife and I thoroughly enjoy it – it’s quirky, odd, weird, and funny all at once. It’s like a good weekly Tim Burton movie.

I noticed in one of the episodes that Ned has a poster/print on the wall that says “Naturally Sweet Candy Chews” at the bottom but I couldn’t see the top of it. In the most recent episode, the one featuring a new candy shop (run by a character played by SNL alum Molly Shannon) that just opened across the street from The Pie Hole, I finally saw the whole print – the rest of it says “Black Dog Licorice”.

The Midas Touch: Skittles Style!

Categories: Candy, Candy Videos

As kids, we all heard the story of King Midas, the greedy king who wished everything he touched turned to gold. It’s a great fantasy until you find the reality of it all. As a Candy Addict, have you ever had the same dream as King Midas, except with candy?

Well, Skittles has the answer for you. It’s a new twist on King Midas’ tale, except that Tim seems less than pleased with his “Skittles Touch.” The commercial itself is quite dark and you can’t help but feel sorry for the poor guy. I guess there’s really more to life than candy for some people. At least he won’t starve to death, right? Right?

Snickers Super Bowl Commercial

Categories: Candy, Candy Videos, Chocolate Candy

I was actually on board a cruise ship in the Caribbean (more about that soon) during the Super Bowl, so I missed this commercial when it was first shown. I didn’t even know about it until yesterday when someone sent me an email about it. I’m not sure why this guy thought I was Snickers or Mars or really why he thought this site has anything to do with Snickers. You’d be surprised how many oddball emails about candy I get. This is the actual email I received:

I have to express my discontent on the Super Bowl commercial advertisement which features two men kissing after eating the same candy bar. As a family man, I was disgusted, to have that display of disregard and inconsideration from corporation which once consisted of better family values. You can be sure that my support for your products as ended.

The snicker bar company has hit a new low and I say new, because, with all the crude companies out there, no one knows what to expect from their commercials; I would have never expected the one company which would push the envelope this year would be the one company that we love the most.

I will discontinue consuming. I have the eyes and ears of over 450 families in my circle of friends and families. You can count on me sharing my discontent with them as well.

It turns out there was a enough backlash form the public about the commercial that Snickers has pulled the ad. Even the supporting websites for the ad now redirect to the main Snickers website.

So what do you think – is the commercial funny? disturbing? offensive? Leave a comment!
