I’ve spent the better part of this past month traveling around the country for work. Aside from the fact that it’s a pain not to be able to sleep in my own bed, meals are a burden. Often, I don’t have kitchens where I stay and must resort to heading to the local gas station or supermarket to sate my hunger.

Gas station meals get expensive if you dine there several times a day. That is why I was thrilled to read on our sister site, Snackerrific, an article about the Top 10 Places to Find Free Snacks. Seriously, I read it, went to a bunch of the stores listed, and managed to satisfy my stomach in no time.

The Nobel Prizes are being handed out, and sometimes I wonder if they’ll ever come up with a category for candy and snack innovation. Until they do, you can keep abreast of all the news and find some of those Nobel-worthy snacks at our sister site, Snackerrific. As an added bonus, until October 13, you can enter to win free ice cream!

And while you’re over there, I recommend you stop and check out some other recent articles where you’ll be surprised to discover where you too can purchase a highly-praised cappuccino from an unexpected vendor at a good price during a time when our economy isn’t doing so well, get caught up on the latest health alerts in the snack world, and find out what PETA thinks should go in your freezer.

See, that’s the peace, economics, and the medicine prize right there, though I’m not sure which category PETA would fall under in the Nobel scope….

I spent this past week feeling sick. As a result, I didn’t really have any cravings for candy or snacks, as much as I just wanted my stomach to feel better; however, as much as my stomach wasn’t thinking about those things, my brain was still consumed in delicious thoughts.

I typically make an attempt to try at least one of the products reviewed on our sister site Snackerrific, but just couldn’t bring myself to down a fudgisicle while under the weather. The idea of Pepto-Bismol and chocolate was nauseating. Luckily, there’s a lot more to the website than just snack reviews.

This past week featured a fascinating article that scientifically explained why there indeed is always room for Jell-o (and any other dessert for that matter). And who says technology is stagnant these days? Check out my new favorite machine: Pizza Vending Machine!

So if your wallet is tight and just can’t afford some Trader Joe’s Canneles de Bordeaux, or maybe you just are watching your waistline this week and must abstain from Pringles Spicy Guacamole Chips, don’t fret. Snackerrific packs a variety of tasty and fun articles that will indeed sate a vast hunger spectrum from stomach to brain.

I don’t watch TV, but if I did, I would have known that all the media could talk about last week was Hurricane Ike. It was apparently such intense and chilling coverage that everyone in my family called me to ask if I was going to evacuate and was I safe?

My family doesn’t realize this, but Texas is a really big place. Austin was nowhere near the site of the hurricane, but this fact did little to assuage my Jewish mother’s worry. Sensing it was her maternal duty to do something, she offered to send me a care package from home so I could “weather the storm indoors.”

At first I tried to reason with her, but then I came to my senses and realized I was trying to turn down free goodies. When she asked what I wanted, it took only a second to figure out. Colossal Cookies from Bristol Farms!

I had read the review on our sister site Snackerrific, and the reception was so overwhelming that there was no way I could resist these. Unfortunately, there are no Bristol Farms in the city here, but they are conveniently located back home.

By the end of the week, the cookies were in the mail, the storm was gone, and I was one happy camper. But what if you too don’t have a Bristol Farms in your neighborhood? Never fret! This past week included a whole bunch of reviews from which you’re bound to find at least one of the products locally, an awesome banana smoothie recipe you can make at home, and a portrait into Japanese Snack Cartoon Characters. No matter where you live or what the weather is like, there is always something for you to enjoy at Snackerrific. So head on over and check out these articles:

This past weekend, a cookie store in Austin was having its grand opening. As a promotion, they were selling a dozen cookies for two dollars. Having not had a freshly baked cookie in some time, I waited anxiously all week for this event.

I even justified my eating of a planned purchase of three-dozen cookies by completing a triathlon the morning of my supposed cookie bounty harvest. You can imagine my overwhelming frustration when, just as I had completed the last two hours of a bike ride to the store, I was greeted not with the aroma of oatmeal raisin deliciousness, but a three-hour line!

No way was I going to stand in the Texan summer sun for that long! As I began to ride away sullenly, I was met with an immediate realization: I had just spent the last five hours exercising and needed food right away.
