If you’ve seen the overtly sexual Magnum (“for pleasure seekers”) commercial on TV or seen the Magnum boxes in your grocer’s freezer and wondered if they were any good and/or worth the extra money, I can tell you quickly… yes and yes. The Belgian chocolate is delicious and the ice cream inside is really good, high quality ice cream. This is not ice cream you buy for your kids. If you’re looking for an adult ice cream indulgence, this is the ice cream for you. They coat the ice cream in a softer Belgian milk chocolate then they coat it in the chocolatey shell. Trust me, it’s delicious. Everything about these bars is heavenly.
The maker says “The super-premium ice cream bars are delicately crafted from only the finest ingredients, combining silky vanilla bean or rich chocolate ice cream with thick, crackling Belgian chocolate” and I wouldn’t dispute a word of it. I only tried Classic, Almond, and Double Chocolate but it’s also available in Double Caramel, White, and Dark.
Candy Addict received this product as a sample from the manufacturer. No payment was received for this review and all opinions represent an unbiased view of the product.
Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream in Columbia, Missouri, announced on their Facebook page on May 31 that their next ice cream flavor would be laced with cicadas. Yeah, the loud, buzzing arthropods that have been emerging from the ground recently. Since then, public health officials have been bugging out. However, the University of Illinois says the little buggers are edible and have an almond flavor.
I gotta say, anything smothered in brown sugar and chocolate must be absolutely delicious. If I weren’t geographically dislocated from Columbia, Missouri, I’d definitely give the cicada ice cream a try. What say you, Candy Addicts? Go or no on cicada ice cream? We have bugs in candy – why not bugs in ice cream?
I should be ashamed of how quickly my household polished off Le Caramel’s caramel topping, caramel syrup, and caramel candies. But, it’s too good to feel bad about it. Granted, I think we finished a 14 oz jar of caramel topping in about one week, but hey, I took one for the team- to help you make good candy decisions. I know, I know… I do what I can.
I’m no gourmet caramel connoisseur, but, this was much better than your run-of-the-mill caramel. It was thick, creamy, and decadent. All of Le Caramel’s products are fantastic. I tried to put the salted butter caramel topping on anything I could find. I put it in my coffee, on ice cream, and on apple pie with ice cream. All were excellent ideas. I didn’t have any ice cream on hand (a crime in and of itself) so I bought some specifically for this caramel. I didn’t cheap out because I felt this caramel deserved the best vanilla bean, name-brand stuff. Crazy delicious!
What excited me most at the All Candy Expo this year? No, it wasn’t anything from Mars or Hershey’s. Nope, not the weird new inhaled chocolate. As a matter of fact, what I liked most was this new candy from the folks who make that ice cream that’s a bunch of little balls. They’ve taken that product and dehydrated it, making freeze dried ice cream that tastes even yummier than the astronaut variety!
The creaminess is what immediately hits you with this candy. Unlike the regular freeze dried variety, there isn’t any chalky aftertaste. You won’t need to suck down water or milk while you’re eating it, but you still get a delicious ice cream-like feeling (minus the brain freeze, of course). I got to try Neapolitan, mint chip, and banana flavors, and all were good. I liked the Neapolitan the most, since it reminded me of my beloved astronaut ice cream, but the others were equally tasty.
Unfortunately, you can’t get this product yet. (sob) It’s brand new and they were at the Expo looking for manufacturers, distributors, etc., so until that happens you won’t get to try it and I’ll be forced to sit here longingly staring at the empty packets trying to force myself not to lick the interiors for one last crumb….
