Candy Review: Le Caramel

I should be ashamed of how quickly my household polished off Le Caramel’s caramel topping, caramel syrup, and caramel candies. But, it’s too good to feel bad about it. Granted, I think we finished a 14 oz jar of caramel topping in about one week, but hey, I took one for the team- to help you make good candy decisions. I know, I know… I do what I can.

I’m no gourmet caramel connoisseur, but, this was much better than your run-of-the-mill caramel. It was thick, creamy, and decadent. All of Le Caramel’s products are fantastic. I tried to put the salted butter caramel topping on anything I could find. I put it in my coffee, on ice cream, and on apple pie with ice cream. All were excellent ideas. I didn’t have any ice cream on hand (a crime in and of itself) so I bought some specifically for this caramel. I didn’t cheap out because I felt this caramel deserved the best vanilla bean, name-brand stuff. Crazy delicious!

Lindt Lindor Truffles Stracciatella

At a Christmas party last month, I won the door prize and was the happy recipient of a bag of Lindt Lindor Truffles Stracciatella. Believe it or not, I had never heard of Lindt chocolates before. I’d seen the bags displayed in grocery stores but had never even paid enough attention to notice their name. What kind of Candy Addict am I?

The light blue bag that I received described the candy within this way:

WHITE CHOCOLATE SHELL
WITH COCOA PIECES
WITH A SMOOTH FILLING

Mmm. “That’s right up my alley!” I said. Indeed it sounded like these could quickly become my new favorite candy. I love white chocolate. I love creamy chocolate. I love little crispy bits in chocolate (which is what I thought the “with cocoa pieces” meant). Combine the three, and perhaps Lindt had created perfection.

I eagerly unwrapped the first delicately wrapped chocolate and took a bite. Hmm… nothing exceptional. I took another bite and another. I managed to stretch the ping pong ball-sized Stracciatella into five bites.

But I wasn’t impressed or even pleased. I was disappointed.
