Stay warm this winter with a Tootsie Roll Scarf

Categories: Candy, Candy Clothing, Chocolate Candy, Classic and Retro Candy

Tootsie Roll Scarf

Tootsie Rolls can do more than just fill your belly with delicious chocolate-y goodness. Thanks to the good people at Fred Flare, they can now keep your neck warm too.

If it weren’t for the fact that 1) I don’t wear scarves and 2) my coworkers would mock me relentlessly for wearing a giant Tootsie Roll wrapper, I’d consider getting one. Perhaps I’ll get one as a gift for a candy-loving friend of mine this holiday season. The scarf is 5″ wide, by 74″ long. Imagine the size of the Tootsie Roll that would fit in there!

Candy Review: Strawberry 3 Musketeers

Categories: Awesomely Addictive Candy, Candy, Chocolate Candy, Limited Edition Candy

Recently I was browsing the local drug store, checking out their Halloween candy selection to see what was new and updated for the season, when I hit pay dirt in the form of 3 Musketeers Fall Mini Mix.

Strawberry 3 Musketeers
The Fall mix contains three flavors: Mocha Cappucino, French Vanilla, and Strawberry. I already covered Mocha and French Vanilla, so go read that and come back. I’ll wait.

Back to the new addition of the bunch, Strawberry. This flavor is AMAZING. It is seriously the best new candy I’ve had in a long time. It has the same texture as a regular 3 Musketeers, but with a strong strawberry flavoring to it. It does taste slightly artificial, as opposed to a realistic strawberry taste, but I don’t mind one bit. I love this candy. So much so, that it is the first candy that I’m marking down as an Awesomely Addictive selection!

Unfortunately, just like the Mocha and French Vanilla varieties, I can only find these in mini size. With the recent release of the full size 3 Musketeers Mint bar, however, I’ll keep hoping.

These are likely Limited Edition, even though they’re not listed as such. So get out there and get some if you love strawberry flavor like me.

Candy Review: Chuao Chocolatier’s ChocoPods

Categories: Candy, Candy Reviews, Chocolate Candy

ChocoPod package
It’s always fun to come home to a big package from FedEx, especially when it’s something you didn’t have to pay for and it contains chocolate treats. This time the sender was Chuao Chocolatier and based solely on their packaging, they appeared to be a fairly upscale brand. As we all know though, packaging is probably the least important part of eating chocolate - we all know it’s about the taste.

The samples they sent me were from the ChocoPod line, which are small individually wrapped chocolates, shaped like cacao pods. Aside from banana, all of the flavors are made with Dark Chocolate and all of the flavors except Candela are filled with a gel-like filling.

Candy Gadget - Picture Frame Gumball Dispenser

Gumball Frame

Do you love gumballs but don’t have the room for the floor stand or tabletop variety? Or are you just looking to display your favorite candy like a work of art? Coming in at around 12 inches, the Gum-Wall has the appearance of a flattened gumball machine mounted against a mirror and stuck into a picture frame.

The machine is fairly flat, and it appears that you can only add one layer of gumballs, but that still should add up to enough to last you quite some time (and it’s refillable). This would go great in a kids room or you could put it in your cubicle and be everyone’s new favorite coworker.

Elvis PEZ Dispensers

Elvis PEZ Dispensers
Ever since it’s appearance in The Client (how’s that for some candy/movie trivia?), collectors have been looking to get their own Elvis PEZ dispenser. Until now, it had only been in the realm of movies and fantasy PEZ makers, until now.

Recently announced is the Elvis box set from PEZ. Including three, count ‘em THREE, different Elvis (Elvi? Elvises?), there’s Young Elvis, Military Elvis and Vegas Elvis. Also included is a three song CD of Elvis songs.

While not officially released until June 25th, according to a person I spoke with at PEZ, the limited edition sets are already starting to pop up on eBay and other online retailers. They also stated that at least 1 “Big Box” retailer would be carrying the item, and while he declined to state which one, my guess would be Wal-Mart, but don’t take my word for it. Based on the prices I’ve seen online, I’m guessing this will retail for around $15-$20.

Candy Review: Idaho Spud

Idaho Spud - Wrapper

I came across an entire CASE of these Idaho Spuds at work. Turns out my boss was given a case of them as partial payment for photographing a wedding (the bride was from Idaho) and she (my boss) couldn’t possibly eat that many, so she brought them in to share the wealth.

I had heard of these before as a classic candy I absolutely must try, but never had the change to. Now I am a HUGE fan of potatoes, in almost all of their forms, but I am not a huge fan of this candy. Consisting of a cocoa-flavored marshmallow center, covered in chocolate, and sprinkled with coconut shavings, the bar just didn’t do anything for me.

Gummi Bear Soap

Naiad's Gummi Bear Soap

Being a typical guy, I probably give about half a second’s thought per month to hand soap. I’ve been using a seemingly endless bottle of Dial for probably the better part of a decade. Every time I go under the sink to refill the dispenser, there never seems to be any less than before.

I stumbled on these Gummi Bear soaps the other day and it actually made me want to wash my hands with one of these bears. Naiad, a user on Etsy (a site for selling handmade crafts) has mini Gummi Bear soaps for sale in her store.

The soaps, which are the same size as actual Gummi Bears, are even scented to correspond with the flavors they would normally be (i.e. whitish is pineapple, etc.). You get 25 tiny Gummi Bear soaps, in a bulk candy package, for only $5. You can’t go wrong at that price, though I’d be tempted to eat them, instead of washing my hands with them. Better keep them away from kids! Washing your hands before dinner is going to seem like dessert.

Naiad also has some chocolate-themed soaps like chocolate/coffee soap and chocolate/mint soap for sale too.

I just emailed her and she said she has lots in stock so if you want some and it says sold out, just contact her and ask about it.

Starburst Retro

Starburst has finally jumped onto the Limited Edition bandwagon that so many other candy brands have been jumping on. While shopping at the local Wal-Mart, I came across these Retro Flavored Starburst at the checkout line. While the package is decorated in a Tie-Dye motif, indicating a 60’s theme, the flavors (or at least their names) actually span the 60’s-90’s.

Candy Art: Heidi Heisse’s Gumball Covered Hummer

Categories: Candy, Candy Art, Candy Photos, Gum

Sugar Coated by Heidi Heisse

Back in 2004 (yes, we realize this is technically old news, but Candy Addict wasn’t around in 2004, so it’s new to us), Arizona-based artist Heidi Heisse created a Hummer covered in gumballs. Well, it’s not really a Hummer, it’s just in the shape of a Hummer. The piece, entitled Sugar-Coated, is meant as a social commentary. The description on her website states:

“This life-sized gum-ball covered HumVee comments on pop culture and reminds us of soldiers handing candy to children in far-flung countries at war with us.”

Pretty deep stuff for gumballs, if you ask me.

Han Solo In Carbonite Chocolate

Chocolate Han Solo

A user on Instructables (an awesome website that teaches you how to do many, many things), recently posted instructions on transforming a “Han Solo in Carbonite Star Wars action figure”, into a chocolate mold to make limitless number of chocolate versions. A whole chocolate army if you wanted.

The user, FreakCitySF, walks you through the process, and provides fairly detailed instructions, photos, links to online sources for the necessary supplies, and even some video footage to help you along. Be warned, while the instructions are clear, it is sill an involved, many step project, but I’m sure you could manage it if you took your time.

Come to think of it, following the steps given, you could make nearly anything out of chocolate. Hmmmmmm…
