About Cindy

I'm a closet Candy Addict, married to a confessed and certified Candy Addict, and mother of three Candy Addicts who are more like bottomless candy pits. Okay, so one of them is a baby, and we don't share our candy with him. My preference is strongly for the peanut butter candies, but I don't like candy that contains peanuts. Weird, I know. I also like to make my own candy sometimes, especially around Christmas time. Peanut butter hard candy, anyone?

Gum Review: Orbit Mist

Orbit Mist Gum

Orbit Mist is a new line of gum from The Wrigley Company. It’s touted as a premium gum and contains little crystals – called Micro-Bursts – that the Orbit website says will “deliver a hydrating sensation to consumers.”

Now I can only assume that it means “to consumers who purchase and chew Orbit Mist.” When I first read the description, I had a vision of Orbit Mist boxes shooting “hydrating sensation beams” at random consumers in the grocery store. “Hello, ma’am, welcome to Food Land. How are you?”

“I’m good, tha-” (*Hydrating sensation beam fires.*) “Ohhh, I suddenly feel so… moistly healthy…”

Oh, ah-hem, I’m supposed to be writing a review. Sorry…

Gum Review: Search for Spearmint Mini-Roundup Part 1

Spearmint Leaves

Some time ago, I bought a package of Wrigley’s Spearmint gum only to discover that the flavor had been changed dramatically. To put it mildly, the spearmint flavor I knew and loved had careened downhill and crashed into a muddy, mucky river. I wrote a review of it and a review of Wrigley’s other “improved” flavors. Since then I’ve been on a search to find a spearmint gum that matches my expectations of a good, mellow, sweet spearmint.

I’ve been slightly overwhelmed by the number of brands and varieties of spearmint-flavored gum. Without even looking very hard, I’ve found nine different varieties. Who knew spearmint could taste so many different ways? Trident alone makes three kinds of spearmint gum. It’s mind boggling.

It has been quite an adventure tasting all the varieties and thinking about the nuances in their differences and similarities. I’m feeling like quite the gum expert lately. And I have the freshest breath in the county.

Candy Review: Q.bel Chocolate Wafer Rolls and Bars

Q-bel Logo

One of the greatest perks of being an official Candy Addict is the occasional box of review candy that comes in my mail. Any box that smells of chocolate is a good box in my book. That chocolate aura surrounding the drab cardboard exterior speaks of tasty treasures lurking inside. Last week, I hit the mother lode.

The UPS guy showed up at my door the other day, set a box on the deck, and rushed off. I picked up the box and – Oh! This is heavy! I couldn’t believe how heavy. The shipping label clearly stated its weight of 11 pounds. Eleven pounds… of chocolate.

Candy Review: 100 Calorie Bars Part 4 – York Peppermint Wafer Bar

100 Calorie Bar Logo

It’s time for the final installment in our attempt to discover delicious diet-friendly candy. All in all, I’d say we’ve been pretty successful. We’ve discovered these three candies so far:

On the ballot today is the York Peppermint Wafer Bar. Will it be a flip or a flop? (I don’t know how ‘flip’ applies. That’s just what came out.) The York Peppermint Pattie is a classic combination of dark chocolate and soft peppermint. Can the 100 Calorie version compare to the classic taste? Let’s find out.

Candy Review: Lindt Lindor Truffles Stracciatella

Lindt Lindor Truffles Stracciatella

At a Christmas party last month, I won the door prize and was the happy recipient of a bag of Lindt Lindor Truffles Stracciatella. Believe it or not, I had never heard of Lindt chocolates before. I’d seen the bags displayed in grocery stores but had never even paid enough attention to notice their name. What kind of Candy Addict am I?

The light blue bag that I received described the candy within this way:

WHITE CHOCOLATE SHELL
WITH COCOA PIECES
WITH A SMOOTH FILLING

Mmm. “That’s right up my alley!” I said. Indeed it sounded like these could quickly become my new favorite candy. I love white chocolate. I love creamy chocolate. I love little crispy bits in chocolate (which is what I thought the “with cocoa pieces” meant). Combine the three, and perhaps Lindt had created perfection.

I eagerly unwrapped the first delicately wrapped chocolate and took a bite. Hmm… nothing exceptional. I took another bite and another. I managed to stretch the ping pong ball-sized Stracciatella into five bites.

But I wasn’t impressed or even pleased. I was disappointed.
