Did you know that houses with black shutters are 77 percent more likely to hand out Kit Kats than other houses? Yeah, me neither. Weird. If I had a black shutters (or even a house, for that matter), I’d be compelled now to ensure that I didn’t hand out Kit Kats. That’s just how I roll. But that and other rather odd facts can be found in a press release issued by Hershey’s.
They’re also happy to announce that this year will also see a variety of new snack sized candies (including Hershey’s Kisses) for trick-or-treaters. Apparently nobody bothered to read my scientific (ahem) study of smaller sized candies. But I will admit those Reese’s pumpkins are really darn cute.
We always like it when candy companies help out good causes, and this is no exception. For every game of Tic Tac Toe that is played, Tic Tac will donate $1 to CancerCare, up to $5000, in addition to the $100,000 donation they’re already making. I have no doubt we can reach that $5000 limit pretty quickly!
Plus, if you happen to be in Times Square on August 19, Tic Tac will be attempting to set the world record for the most Tic Tac Toe games played at one time. It’s all part of a larger partnership with CancerCare to raise awareness of the effect cancer can have on everyone, including friends and loved ones, those fighting the disease, and health care providers.
So what are you waiting for? Go play some Tic Tac Toe already!
File this under coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time. Miam! is the amazing work of a team of French filmmakers. The animated short follows a young boy as he journeys up the shelves of the candy aisle and into a magical world of candy. Along with a candy princess, he goes on an adventure through this land of candy, eventually fighting the Great Blob of Mockolate to save the princess. (Ok, maybe it’s supposed to be chocolate and not mockolate, but could chocolate really be so evil? I say nay! ‘Tis the work of the evil mockolate!)
And boy is there candy! Every kind you can think of, amazingly rendered and animated. From gummi bears to licorice to gumdrops and lollipops, it definitely looks good enough to eat. It’s like a Candy Addict’s dream come to life… on film, at least.
Many thanks to Laurent, one of the creators, for sharing this with us!
I got this awesome email the other day from a mom who helped her son make this totally cool jelly bean portrait in school. Check it out! (It looks even better the further away from it you are.)
It was done by 2nd graders in at Saugatuck Elementary School in Westport, CT and is made out of 3,500 jellybeans. The students were “inspired by Vik Muniz and all of his amazing works with food.”
And don’t forget to check out our other jelly bean art articles:
You may remember that we mentioned Star Trek Gummies a while back. Well, I finally had my chance to try them at the All Candy Expo and found them delightful.
After introducing myself, a very pleasant gentleman offered to give me a box so I could write a review when I got home. Of course, it turned out that another guy at the booth was completely against the idea – they didn’t have enough, they were sold out, blah blah blah. Nice Guy overrode Mean Guy, though, and slipped me a box so I could revel in the gummy yumminess. (Then he had to tell another lady who wasn’t a preeminent candy reviewer that she couldn’t have any – hah!)
