Take 5 Bar
Recently, I’ve gotten the relatively rare opportunity to taste and review a number of American products (thanks Sera!) and I’ve realized a few things. For instance, eating pretzels as candy is a very US-based food phenomenon. Products like the Pretzel Pete Chocolate Peanut Butter Gems, large pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate and rolled in toppings, pretzels added to desserts and so on are really only something you find on American shores.

Needless to say I was super excited to try Hershey’s Take 5 bar and ripped it open immediately (as evidenced by photo above). The Take 5 bar is made with a long list of my favorite things: chocolate, pretzels, caramel, peanuts and peanut butter. Based on this list alone, what’s not to like? The bar itself is actually two bars – two vaguely oval-shaped lumps, each about 2.5 inches long.

As promised the bar does have all those ingredients in it. The bar is layered, starting with the peanuts and ending with the pretzel as a sort of base. The entire thing is then coated in a fairly thin layer of classic Hershey’s milk chocolate. The salty/sweet flavor combination is a classic, and the pretzel aspect of this bar just takes that flavor mix to the next level.

The Take 5 bar impressed me with its originality – I love the idea of having the pretzels in there, and having both whole peanut pieces as well as peanut butter. My only real complaint with it is that some of the layers were a bit thin, in particular the caramel. While it wasn’t quite the mouth party I had hoped for, Take 5 was pretty tasty and I could easily see myself picking this one up again. According to the Hershey’s Take 5 website, these are also made in peanut butter, white chocolate and a limited edition chocolate cookie version – all of which sound pretty heavenly to me.

As a delicious candy bar with just that little bit more oomph to it than your average Snickers or Mars, this one is worth eating.

Take 5 bars are amazingly good. The textures and flavors are mixed perfectly. I haven’t had one in a while – now I want one!

Happy to hear you enjoyed it Michelle, you’re very welcome! :)

I’ve had all the other varieties, minus the white chocolate one, and none of them stand up to the original.

MichelleG, you are entitled to your opinion… But these are AWESOMELY ADDICTIVE. I believe they are perfect as is. I have made addicts out of many co-workers by sharing these around Halloween. Yes, I buy the “fun size” because that way I don’t feel guilty for eating 4… or 6. Sera is right, all the alternative versions just aren’t as good.

This hands down has to be my favorite chocolate candy bar in the world. I love Take 5 bars. They are so delicious. The pretzel was a winner for me….

Love these! When I first discovered them, I did my usual and opened one up in the car. I was about to put the car in drive and had to just stop and SAVOR this combination of everything I like! It was the perfect blend of sweet and salty, crunchy and chewy. Instant hit with me. I’ve tried the other flavors and I agree with everyone else: they’re OK, but the original stands above the crowd! “It wasn’t quite the mouth party I had hoped for” cracked me UP! LOL!
P.S. Being a caramel addict, yeah, Take 5 could use more of it…

We have those in Canada, but they are called Max 5. Actually I havent seen them in a while. I don’t think that they really took off here, I could be wrong though.

    I don’t really care for Take 5 because I don’t like pretzels…except those big ones sold by Auntie Anne’s and Wetzel’s Pretzels….
But I just don’t like the salty contrast in an otherwise great cnady bar.
