This is crazy... Punishing a really good student this severely who contributes to his school. Just seems they should have really given him the benefit of the doubt, I believe he might not have known... Even so, I mean make him do lunch detail or detention or something and maybe even require him to do something where he had to encourage others not to buy or sell candy since he does have a platform, being student body vice president and all....

That is a real shame. I think a strict repromand should have been enough. Taking his title away was way too strict.

I read this a while ago and thought about how sad this was to hear. I think they should have did a sensible punishment like detention or write an essay on how you know that selling isn't right on school premises.

It isn't because he had candy, it's because selling anything on school premises is against the rules. The kid should have known better being the vice president, but he shouldn't have been punished like he was.

Ah, see, but what KIND of Skittles were they? I mean, if they were the Original Fruits, well, shoot, nothing too illegal there, not really. The Chocolate Mix, however, should be considered highly contraband. They're "different," and that means they're just wrong!

Let's not even discuss what happens when those kids start mixing them up...you put that Chocolate Pudding with the Grape and you're just asking for big trouble, people. See how fast it can become a horror story? Just darn lucky those Candy Police were trolling the playground when they were or jeez, just THINK what terrifying candy combinations could have ensued? Putting all those kids at risk like that?

I say eat the Skittles in the privacy of your bedroom, young man; nobody wants to see THAT in public, for crying out loud.

How sad! I think that stripping the class vice preseident of his title, in addition to the suspension and being banned from an honors dinner is TOO much! What happened to the other student that sold the candy? Was he reprimanded as well ( as ludicrous as that is!)? When I was in HS, we had vending machines that sold sodas, candies and chips. The only thing that we COULDN'T do is take a hall pass and buy these items during class time. If you were caught, you'd receive detention. I understand the school district's desire to have healthier children and offer healthier food choices, but that was a tad much.
