Candy Review: Wildly Cherry M&Ms

Wildly Cherry M&Ms Package

The candy gods were smiling on me during my last weekly shopping trip. As I patiently waited in the checkout line scanning the boxes of candy lined up, I immediately noticed something different. What’s this I see? A red M&Ms wrapper? My heart skipped a beat as I realized it was the new Wildly Cherry M&Ms! Had the day I’ve been waiting for finally come?

I was so excited to find these new Wildly Cherry M&Ms. Why? Well, when I was at the All Candy Expo back in September, the people at Mars, who weren’t ready to unveil the wrapper and samples just yet, still allowed me a “sneak taste” of these. I was handed a little plastic cup and the booth guy carefully poured a couple into it for me.

I stood there and squealed in delight, especially when I tasted them. I really, really liked them. Something about the new flavor, the way the M&Ms were mysteriously dished out to me in such secrecy, and the flavor just made them so appealing to me. It doesn’t help that red is also my favorite color! We were told they’d hit stores around March of 2008 so I did my best to put them out of my mind, waiting for the day I’d see them again.

Wildly Cherry M&Ms Chocolate Candy

The Wildly Cherry M&Ms are really pretty to look at with an attractive crimson red package, showing a Red M&M hanging from a ripe bunch of cherries. Opening the package and letting all the candies spill out, the pieces are just as attractive, if not more so, than the packaging. The M&Ms come in two colors: a nice crimson (which isn’t a bright as the normal red color) and a maroon. Like the Razzberry M&Ms that were released last summer, these are a little larger than normal M&Ms and the sizing amongst them isn’t uniform.

How’s the flavor? I really, really, really like these. I can tell you exactly what they taste like: cherry cordials, on the nose. It’s not a cough syrup fake cherry flavor at all, but a sweet maraschino cherry instead. I think this was a good call on Mars’ behalf, since maraschino cherries aren’t exactly naturally flavored to begin with so it’s a much better flavor to mimic and pair as a chocolate flavor addition. The two colors, from what I can tell, taste the same. I kept alternating tasting the two and at some points I thought maybe the maroon was sweeter, but no, I think it’s all in my head.

So if you love M&Ms, even if you weren’t a Razzberry M&M lover like me, give these a shot. You may find a new favorite like I did.

I also just tried these yesterday. They taste was a bit like a cherry Tootsie Roll Pop in my opinion. Really good in my opinion.

I liked them too, but… I actually thought they tasted A LOT like the Razzberry M&Ms…. or was it the Cherry Cordial kisses… or… I need to stop feeding my addictions. At least the small amount of color choices made these easy to sort!

My store had them advertised, had big dern display and everything – but NOT a one package available. The display was filled with regular and peanut types but not a package of the cherry! Guess I wasn’t supposed to get any – yet :(
If it’s still up without the cherry m&m’s – I will cause a minor fuss. ;-)

So, is it the chocolate or the candy coating that’s flavored? Or both??

The coating is flavored I do believe.

They had cherry cordial M&Ms at Christmas – are these the same things only in different packaging? I still have some of the Christmas ones, so I haven’t bothered to pick these up yet.

I just found these at Walgreens. To me they taste exactly like the Cherry 3 Musketeers I just finished last week, no doubt because they’re both made by Mars. They’re good but I kinda wish I hadn’t bought 4 bags (I was banking on liking them and didn’t want to have to go back! LOL) At least they’re single serving bags…

The chocolate is actually a combination of milk and semisweet. They’re not bad, although it’s a lot of cherry flavor in one bite.

Why do these wonderful little M&Ms have to be for a limited time only?? I absolutely LOVE THESE! Not only are they WONDERFUL just to eat, but they taste fantastic in cookies. Why oh why can’t we have them all the time???

I found these just before Valentine’s Day and loved them. Of course, I love most things cherry flavored anyway, so for me, this was a no brainer.

They are still in the stores here, so I’m hoping they will stick around for a while longer.

I love these. Had two packages last week.

One thing I find interesting is the shell seems to be noticeably thicker than regular plain M&M’s so the tactile crunch is more prevalent-that’s one of my favorites aspects of them.

The cherry flavor is done very well too. I was afraid they would be cherry liquid filled when I first saw them and was pleasantly surprised.
