Candy Review: Emily’s Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Emily's Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries

I am a sucker for heart-shaped boxes. When I was younger, my parents would always give me and my sisters our very own heart-shaped candy boxes on Valentine’s Day, which made me feel special and happy.

I can’t really explain it, but I honestly think candy tastes better when it comes from a heart-shaped box.

Maybe it’s the idea that love came along with the candy. Or maybe a heart-shaped box just looks bigger than a regular box, and the idea of more candy (more candy!) just makes everything in the world better.

I was stoked when my shipment from Emily’s Chocolates arrived: when I tore open the cardboard box, I was thrilled to see a giant, beautiful heart-shaped box. The box was tied with a lovely green ribbon, and filled with dark-chocolate covered strawberries.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the strawberries; I assumed they would be similar to dipped strawberries, with the berry clearly visible beneath a thin layer of chocolate coating. This, however, was not the case. When I opened the box, I saw a generous amount of chocolate waiting for me: there was no clear indication that these were strawberries.

At that point, I figured the strawberries were closer to cherry cordials (which I don’t care for too much), with a gooey center hiding behind a layer of thick chocolate. Curious, I took a bite – and was pleasantly surprised.

The chocolate was delicious, dark and rich with a deep flavor that complimented the chewy strawberry center within. The strawberry center is buried in chocolate, to the point where you can’t discern it with the naked eye, but the taste is sweet and strong and balances perfectly with the rich, chewy chocolate.

The texture of the strawberry is a lot like a raisin: very chewy but very tasty. It provides a really lovely sensory experience, as the tart and chewy nature of the strawberry bursts forth at the same time as the bitterness of the dark chocolate begins to melt away.

To put it quite simply: these babies are gooooood.

Even my co-tasters, who don’t normally enjoy fruit-based chocolates, enjoyed these dark chocolate covered strawberries very much. “I wasn’t expecting the strawberry part to taste like this,” my roommate said, before happily eating five or six more.

If you are currently seeking a sweet for your Sweet this Valentine’s Day, I highly recommend these yummy chocolates. The quality of the chocolate, combined with the unique strawberry flavor and the beautiful presentation, make Emily’s Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries a truly special treat.

And the heart-shaped box, I guarantee you, will only make them taste that much better.

  1. The best way I can describe them are Strawberry Raisinets. The Strawberries are similar to raisins in texture. VERY good.

  2. Godiva also has some killer milk chocolate covered strawberries (and dark chocolate raspberries)!

  3. Ohhhhh, these sound truly divine…but woe is me, no sweetie to buy me any. I have a little over a week to work on that dilemma, so excuse me, gotta go…!

  4. If I didn’t have a kitchen rack filled with candy, I might not feel bad about purchasing these. I think my boyfriend would love them. Thanks for the review.

  5. My boyfriend knows I enjoy buying strawberries and chocolate and combining them together. When he found these, he had to buy them for me for Valentines!I loved them so much I’m looking for more on thr internet!! Thanks, they are soooo good!
