Tonight, as I was devouring a bowl of rocky road ice cream, I thought of Goo Goo Cluster ice cream. I am a child of the 80's and remember how much my dad and I both liked it although I remember it having a vanilla ice cream base instead of chocolate. Anyhow, I discovered a bit of history on the Goo.

Supposedly, the name comes from their slogan, which is something about "a taste one will desire from birth" hence the name "Goo Goo." The slogan made the founder think of a baby and thought of what a child's first 'sounds' may be such as "goo goo" and "ga ga."

So there you have it...the unofficial history of the slogan and name of the Goo Goo Cluster.

Damn it...now I REALLY want one!

I used to get these in PA at the Dollar General store. They were the only place that carried them in our area. They are so sweet that they hurt my teeth, but I don't care. Everytime I see them, I buy as many as they have!

I've long enjoyed the GooGoo Supreme and I am often pleased to find 4-packs at my local Dollar Store. What a GREAT treat and what an amazing price!

I saw a box of Goo Goo Supremes this evening on my way home in the WalMart Neighborhood Market (where I found the new Peanut Butter Whoppers, too) here in Tucson. I didn't know we had them here! Of course I bought the box and promptly put 2 in the freezer and about a half hour later realized that it was the Peanut Butter ones you're supposed to freeze! Oops. I rescued the two pecanized plops and I think they'll survive just fine; they're thawing as we speak...

I LOVE these and have since I was a kid and we used to get 'em at the gas station around the corner when I lived in Florida; we left when I was 8 for Connecticut and it was years before I had them again. I'd save all of my allowance money for candy (except for that one time I shoplifted a Hershey bar when I was 7 - the guilt made it taste terrible)! I like all three GooGoo "plops" (HAHA!) and agree that the peanut butter version is really a sublime candy experience all the way around. Never tried one frozen, though...hmmm...

I am shocked to learn that the US does not know of this tasty treat. Here in North Carolina, we can buy Goo Goo multi-packs that come 8 to a box (i think) for less than $3 in Walmart, or in most gas stations. I wish they would come out with a dark chocolate version!
