When I learned that I would soon receive a shipment of Seneca Truly Fruit candy, I was excited but didn’t know what to expect. I decided not to read anything about the product before tasting it, and for some reason I’d gotten the idea in my mind that Truly Fruit would involve chocolate. When I opened the box and saw three 4 oz. bags of “soft fruit candies” (no chocolate), I was a tad disappointed until I tasted the candy.
The packaging brags that Truly Fruit is “made with real fruit and real fruit juice,” is fat free, and contains Vitamin C. Looked good so far. Five disc-shaped flavors come individually wrapped in each bag: cherry, lemon, red apple raspberry, orange, and green apple. I was most curious about red apple raspberry, and most hopeful about cherry. I looked the least forward to lemon, and was fairly indifferent to orange and green apple. Here’s how the flavors stacked up for me:
Red: I say “red,” because despite eating several pieces (and comparing them side by side), I couldn’t tell which flavor was which. In fact, I’m not even sure what I ate, but the red candy was delicious, which I guess means both cherry and red apple raspberry are yummy.
Lemon: Refreshing. I usually shy away from lemon desserts, but the lemon Truly Fruit was very good.
Green Apple: Not so great. Very artificial tasting, and very similar to the generic green apple flavor that plagues a lot of low-end candy.
Orange: Very good. Reasonably authentic taste and smell.
All the candy was very soft but not chewy, and had a nice sugar coating. I could’ve eaten a lot more than the four-piece serving size, but without the green apple.
I’m a bit confused about the incongruous flavors and ingredients. The “real fruit and real fruit juice†listed in the ingredients are grape, pineapple, and apple puree. Not exactly a match for the candy flavors! Despite the artificial flavors being mostly responsible for the good taste, and despite the fact that I’m a chocoholic, I recommend Truly Fruit as a flavorful alternative to keep things interesting. We all need to vary our candy habits once in a while, right?

I thought the Truly Fruit was quite good. I agree that I couldn´t especially tell you which red was which, but both were great. Actually all the flavors were good. I will definitely be buying it again.
