OK, two things I would like to share that might help:

1) Coffee Crisp may be an acquired taste. I bet you would hate Vegemite if you ever tried (extreme example).

2) You need to get these fresh. It is extremely difficult to find fresh ones in the US. Then tend to sit on the shelves for a long time and I have even found them to be bad inside.

But for coffee lovers out there please note these are not made of coffee nor do they taste taste it. It is more like a sweet mocha flavored chocolate wafer biscuit. And if you can think of it that way you might find yourself saying hey this is good. (Not for chocolate, not for coffe but more like a cookie - a wafer with mocha flavored.

Funny, I've always preferred the Coffee Crisp to the Kit Kat primarily because Kit Kat always had a more greasy texture to it. As an American candy lover, I am a lifelong fan of Coffee Crisp. My first coffee crisps were enjoyed as a child visiting family in Canada. While Canada was a great place to visit, I definitely looked forward to visiting to try another Coffee Crisp (or Aero bar). I've had the opportunity to try a couple off the US shelves, and it's honestly hard to say whether they are different than Canadian ones. I recall once having a USA batch that were lackluster, and then I've had a domestic batch that had vibrant flavors. I'm guessing this has to do with freshness. Still, it is quite possible the very scarce and hard-to-find US bars are made differently, which would be a terrible shame and bad strategic move by Nestle. I wish the "good" Coffee Crisps were widely available in the US - they beat many of the standard candy bars we have on our shelves.

I took a trip to Canada this summer where I experienced a Coffee Crisp bar for the first time. I was addicted and when my small supply of three bars(all that lasted after the week) ran out, I was left feeling incomplete (ok so maybe that's a little exaggerated but still!) My mom found some at a convenience store and brought them home for me. I opened the package to take a bite of the wafery, chocolaty goodness, but was very disappointed with the nauseating sensation that this thing caused!

Lesson learned. Canada has better Coffee Crisp than the US does.

I don't know if it's because my job is so big and has it's own convince store, but their stock of Coffee Crisp is nothing like you explained. Maybe they get theirs from Canada...

I tried it and thought it was nice. I don't like coffee that much so the light hint of coffee was a plus for me. My Boyfriend who loves coffee even likes it. I don't know if yours was an old candy bar that was expiring or what. I don't trust candy that has been on the shelf for a long period of time.

Here's my take on things... I HATE coffee.... a Canadian friend sent me one of these and out of curiosity, tried it. It is now my favorite candy bar EVER. Now, the ones I buy are from a local specialty shop and are shipped from Canada or Great Britain... not sure if this makes a difference... I don't find them even remotely greasy and about the trans fats...well...something's gonna kill us all, may as well be candy.

Hmmm, I think there might be something to be said about a Canadian version of the bar being better. I had a Coffee Crisp and wasn't all that thrilled, and for me who loves wafery bars, that was surprising, but then was at a friend's parent's house and they had come back from a trip to Canada with a boatload of food stuff. Coffee Crisp was among the goods, so I gave it a second try, and whoa, I liked it alot! So maybe they do make a different (better) version in Canada!

I think the problem is they're making them differently here in America.

I have no proof behind this, but my mom makes at least a monthly trip to Canada to see my uncle and usually brings back candy for us (Coffee Crisp and Aero bars, which are completely amazing) and they were still great. When I bought one from a local 7-11 recently, it had the exact qualities you described (Waxy, almost greasy, just lacking in flavor) and the only thing I can think of is that they're making it differently.

See if you can get your hands on a Canadian Coffee Crisp bar.

I actually tried several since they're free :) and I like it. It tastes more like mocha than coffee. About the greasiness, I didn't get that. But from what you're writing, it sounds like you removed the wrap completely and holding it with bear hands while eating it (eeeeewwwwww).

Awwww... I am actually a fan of Coffee Crisp, or I should specify, I love the Triple Chocolate variety (nowhere to be found except for in Canada). Maybe you had an old one?

I tried one and didn't think they were BAD, but they weren't nearly as good as I was expecting and hoping for. I finished it, but I wouldn't buy another. Give me a Java Twix any day :)
