I have mixed feeling about holiday candy going on the shelves before Thanksgiving arrives. Is it just me? My usual crankiness toward the early arrival was quickly dissipated when I saw these new Holiday Baby Bottle Pops. Yes, new candy for me to try!
They may be holiday but their design is 100% Christmas with bright reds, greens and whites. They have names like “Christmas Punch” and a redesign of the top cap so it’s more tree shaped and has a loop on top, suggesting you can hang it as a decoration on a tree. I found this amusing for some reason.
Strawberry Watermelon: This has a pair of identical fat snowmen on the label. The pop is a pretty red/green swirl and the powder inside is a nice peachy pink. Firstly, I really like these new domed plastic tops since it’s much easier to extract the pop from it. With the original design I have to spend a good amount of time wiggling (with a little elbow grease of course) to get the pop loose.
The pop tastes of both strawberry and watermelon which I was surprised by, since Baby Bottle Pop usually separated its flavors between the powder and the pop. It starts with a nice fresh strawberry taste then turns into the familiar artificial slightly sour watermelon flavor. It’s very nice how the two flavors work together. The powder carries both flavors as well, except the watermelon is much stronger and much more sour here. You only get a hint of strawberry before the watermelon rushes in and swarms your taste buds with flavor and citric acid. Overall, it’s quite good.
Christmas Punch: Pretty teal colored powder and a top that’s green and white swirls. It smells faintly of punch. Both the lollipop and the powder carry the same flavor which is a really fruity tropical punch. You get nice hints of pineapple, mango and passion fruit along with the normal punch flavors of strawberry, orange and watermelon. The only difference is that the lollipop is sweet, whereas the powder is very, very sour. It tickled my throat and I coughed a lot as a result. What a weenie I am!
Cherry Vanilla: Cute fat Santas decorate this one. The powder is a light peachy color and the lollipop is an attractive red and white swirl. The powder smells more like vanilla then it does cherry. This one is very good and the lollipop part of it tastes totally different from anything I’ve had to date. The vanilla flavor is very strong and the cherry only appears as a hint toward the end. The vanilla flavor is very sweet, and “beany” and the cherry adds a hint of fruitiness. It’s so different and really, really good. The powder doesn’t taste how it smells at all. I get no vanilla at all, but just a very fresh non-medicinal cherry. Yum!
Overall these flavors are great and I wish they’d add them to the regular line. I might have to stock up on a few so I have some once they disappear. I might also consider sneaking them onto my family’s Christmas tree so I have something to gnaw on during the special morning. In any case, keep an eye out for these in in the holiday section of your local store, these are worth trying!
