Any parent or caregiver of a child under the age of 8 probably knows what Noggin is. In case you aren’t such a lucky individual, I’ll clue you in: it’s a dedicated television channel that caters to the under-5 set, claiming to teach and guide our impressionable youth. As my investigations have revealed, however, it’s actually a thinly guised ploy by the Candy Corn Defamation League to turn our nation’s children against the tasty treat.
This video represents my main piece of evidence. In it, Moose A. Moose, the host of Noggin, sings about his dislike of candy corn. Ultimately, the only creature to profess a taste for the sweet confection is Zee, Moose’s non-speaking little blue bird sidekick. With her clearly undersized wings and complete lack of speech, she isn’t much of a role model for the kids who want to buck the trend and enjoy the little tricolor pyramids of goodness.
Is this really what we want our children watching? Must we sit idly by while our children are brainwashed to dislike this staple of Halloween fare? I say no! We fight! Take back the candy corn!
Or just sit back and watch the cute little characters dance around with candy. Either way works for me.
I love Moose and Zee! I watch them with my niece whenever she visits. I think her love for Moose still stands, even with his anti-candy corn propaganda.
If he starts talking smack about jelly beans, however, I’m willing to bet that the station gets switched pretty darn quick.
October 15th, 2007 at 8:19 amHow sad! I hope it doesn’t influence too many kids to hate candy corn without trying it first! It’s tasty stuff!
It’s beautifully styled and animated though. :/
