When I was growing up, every time my parents went out to a wedding, they would always come back with a little treat for me. Sadly, the “treat” was always a mesh bag filled with Jordan almonds. Clearly nothing says “hey thanks for the cheap gift” better than Jordan almonds!
Maybe the mesh bag was lined in gold or silver, maybe it had an annoying sappy love poem, maybe it had a tag with “thanks for listening to the drunken speeches, here’s some crappy almonds” attached, maybe it had little plastic doves hot-glued on it. Either way, this Candy Addict had to endure years of Jordan almonds - almonds which not only tasted like nothing much, but weren’t really all that fun to eat. Every time I popped one in my mouth I worried for my fillings.
For my own wedding I went with cutesy little boxes, but filled them with Jelly Belly jellybeans, all in various shades of green, because Green is my last name. Sadly, none of my guests quite got the joke, and all night I had to put up with, “But why only green ones?”
Luckily, the My Wedding Favors company has an entire range of edible (non-Jordan almonds) wedding favors for you to give to your guests. In addition to the usual chocolates, they have a range of decorated cookies, candy bars, mints and even small bottles of maple syrup for the Canucks out there. (I won’t mention the fact that they do also offer Jordan almonds in assorted colours.) It almost makes me want to get married again, just so I can thank my guests with these cute sweet treats. Frankly, I wouldn’t mind ordering some extras and taking them home for myself!

Whether I got the joke or not, I would certainly have been appreciative of Jelly Bellies at a wedding.
My brother did Hershey’s kisses in a little box, which looked surprisingly elegant in their silver foil wrapping. Still, it’s good to know that a site out there give options.
August 14th, 2007 at 5:40 amha! my mother was just reminiscing w/ me last weekend about how when i was four, i found a bag of jordan almonds in her dresser from her wedding and ate them all. the almonds were seven years old!
so clearly someone loves those jordan almonds…
August 14th, 2007 at 8:45 amI am getting married this comming Sunday, and we are using Dr. Pepper Jelly Bellys and French Vanilla Jelly Bellys. They are the colors of the wedding. White and Burgandy.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:19 pmSpending $7.99 a pound is kind of a chore on our budget though. Each guest is going to get about 50 beans in a little pounch that has all of the wedding info printed on it. Hopefully the print on the bags doesn’t have lead paint (recall recall recall!). Ha ha.
Jordan Almonds are made by the devil’s hands. They are horrible. Funny though, my father-in-law loves them

August 14th, 2007 at 10:03 pm…and my mother adores them, too! It’s one of those foods I seek out whenever I get especially lonesome for my mom (you know, after a breakup, getting laid off, coming in second or just when you miss your mama). Jordan Almonds, meatloaf, Cream of Wheat and fresh raspberries with sour cream and brown sugar. She is one of the reasons I’m such a foodie and candy addict, too. I grew up eating things from all over the world and being taught to try everything at least once (but the second bit will always taste better, she always said)!
August 16th, 2007 at 3:36 pmJordan Almonds… shudder. I think they are the nastiest things around. I haven’t seen them since childhood (like you, my parents would give them to me after they went to a wedding.)I am hoping they went out of fashion because I haven’t seen them in a long time. Good riddance!
