Before this past Saturday, a conversation about Payday candy bars might have gone something like this:
- Some Nosey Person (aka SNP): Yo, Brian! Do you like Payday candy bars?
- Me: Yep.
- SNP: When was the last time you had one?
- Me: I have no idea. It’s been a LONG time.
Thinking about it, I can’t say why I haven’t had a Payday in so long. I remember that I do like them, but it’s just not a candy I pick up when I’m buying a candy bar. Maybe it’s the fact that I don’t see them much, or maybe I do and my mind has just started skipping over them when I’m scanning for a candy bar.
So, I was excited to open up the jar of Fresh From The Factory Payday bars that arrived on my doorstep Saturday morning – so I could refresh my memory on the whole Payday issue. For those unfamiliar with the FFTF concept, Hershey’s is now selling candy that is “Fresh From The Factory” – order it online and Hershey’s will ship it to you within 96 hours of it being wrapped on the factory line. They offer Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Twizzlers, Good & Plenty, and now Payday.
They arrived in a large plastic jar full of small, “fun size” Payday bars. Upon opening one, there is plenty of gooey caramel on the wrapper and the whole thing is nice and soft – it bends easily to the touch. And the taste – man, it tastes good. It’s like a honey-roasted peanut bar. Just like another popular candy bar, Payday is packed with peanuts. It’s a roll of nougat, covered in caramel and peanuts. I polished off the first one quickly (yes, at about 10:30AM) and had to restrain myself so I wouldn’t eat a bunch more right then.
I’ve had the jar of Payday for three days now, and I’ve eaten maybe one third of them and every one has been fabulous. The Payday bar has made significant upward progress on my favorite candy bar list. I can’t believe Payday has been neglected by me for so long.
If you like peanuts, candy, and/or Payday bars, I can’t recommend these enough. There is a limited winodw of availability for the Fresh From The Factory Payday bars – the next batch ships the week of August 13, so get your order in now if you want some.
