I’ve never lived close to any Cinnabon locations, and I’ve never eaten one of their heavily lauded cinnamon rolls, but I’ve always wanted to sample some of their goods. I recently got my chance to taste one of their products, Cinnabon Cinnamon Caramel Pecan Clusters, when I found a 4.2 oz box of them during a trip to Big Lots. At $1.99, the price was low enough for me to give them a shot.
The box contains six pieces of candy, separated by a clear plastic divider. They look like an average caramel pecan cluster and smell strongly of chocolate, but they also emit a whiff of Cinnabon’s signature Makara cinnamon. The clusters consist of a layer of glazed pecans topped with cinnamon-flavored caramel and covered in chocolate.
The pecan layer is a bit more sparse than your usual pecan caramel cluster, and the chocolate is slightly waxy and unremarkable, but the selling point of this candy is its cinnamon caramel. The cinnamon is subtle at first and really develops as an interesting aftertaste. The chew-factor is nice – it’s chewy, but not so much that it’ll pull out a filling. At the same time, though, this doesn’t really taste like caramel. The cinnamon overshadows any caramel flavor, and its consistency is more dry than most caramels.
The Makara cinnamon adds a nice unexpected bite to these clusters, but the candy as a whole isn’t really much different from your everyday caramel pecan cluster. Other flavors are available, including Cinnamon Mousse Pecan with Dark Chocolate and Cinnamon Cream with White Chocolate.
