Candy Review: Pretzel Pete Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Gems

Pretzel Pete Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel GemsDo you ever have a moment when you realize your restraint has been taken from you by something so delicious that “control” is no longer in your vocabulary? I had just such a moment when I discovered Pretzel Pete Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Gemsin my parents’ pantry. At first, I was wary of stale or over-salted pretzels, bland peanut butter, and cheap chocolate. I’ve had bad experiences with the pretzel, peanut butter, and chocolate combination before. Pretzel Pete’s Gems made me forget that my lunch was still in the microwave. They are Awesomely Addictive, without question.

The pretzel nuggets are standard pretzel nugget size and are generously filled with peanut butter and completely coated in milk chocolate. When I first saw them, I remembered pigging out on Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream years ago. Pretzel Pete kicked Chubby Hubby into a mere memory.

The chocolate and peanut butter were smooth, and the pretzels were the perfect consistency. As a candy-lover, I found it most important that the pretzel didn’t dominate the chocolate, and it didn’t. Someone at Pretzel Pete found the exact right mix of salty, sweet, smooth, and crunchy (and it’s about time someone did)!

I couldn’t get enough of the gems. They’d gotten clumped together in their bag, and I made a half-hearted effort to separate them. I kept saying “just one more” to myself, but since they were in clumps, well, you get the picture. I gorged.

I have nothing bad to say about Pretzel Pete Chocolate Gems, although I do recommend keeping them in the refrigerator, unless you want to eat a melted mass of chocolate, peanut butter, and pretzels – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing – just messy.

Unfortunately, you may have some trouble getting your hands on the Chocolate Gems, and Pretzel Pete won’t ship them in the warm months. Check out their list of retailers, and hopefully you can find a store near you. It seems that the company specializes in flavored and filled nuggets, so if you like gourmet pretzels, I would tventure to guess that their products will satisfy your cravings. I plan to hunt down some of the other flavors and I hope they’re good, because the Chocolate Gems set a very high standard for Pretzel Pete.

I happened to be one very lucky girl last Sunday (March 9)and stumbled upon these at Cost Plus World Market here in Tucson. I got pretty excited to have found them sitting so innocuously on the shelf since reading this review back when it first came out made me literally salivate. I’ve been wanting to try these ever since. In a big, bad way.

OK, here’s what I think: they are even better than the review states, and the review rocks! They ARE Awesomely Addictive. Mine weren’t clumped, so I had nothing to stop me from eating a whole lot. They are incredibly good, go down very smoothly and are perfectly proportioned with the flavors and textures, too. Just the right combo.

So, I went back to get some more today and NOOOOOO…they were SOLD OUT! Aaaarrrrrgh! I have to actually wait now. So, to placate myself I bought some of Pretzel Pete’s Honey Mustard Nuggets. Whoa. Pretty great. OK, these guys KNOW how to make pretzel nuggets, flat out. I’m hooked. Find them no matter what effort you have to put into it…it’s worth it!

I’ll be sitting in the parking lot of World Market if you are looking for me…just, you know, waiting…
