I have heard that Cup O Gold is the West Coast’s answer to the Mallo Cup. There are differences, of course, like how Cup O Gold adds almonds to the mix and also comes in a single cup package. Speaking of the package, it’s quite attractive. It’s a nice rich chocolate brown background with “Cup O Gold” written in brilliant light brown, orange, yellow, and white. The best part is their grinning mascot, a bearded 49er.
Sadly, my Cup O Gold didn’t reach me intact. It has collapsed on one side and marshmallow goo had stuck itself to the interior of the wrapper. Such is the way with these sort of confections it seems. I’m surprised on how large the cup is, a good 4-5 inches across (it does weight in at a hefty 1.25 ounces). I can see textural evidence of the coconut and slivered almonds on the top.
The marshmallow is nice and sweet with a hint of vanilla. The chocolate is good, and reminds me of Hershey’s; sweet and a little grainy, but nice and milky. The coconut and almonds are hardly noticeable except for the texture they provide in your mouth. I’m not getting much flavor from them at all. I’m still amazed about how big this cup is. I guess you can say you “Strike it Rich” with this one!

Have you tried a Valomilk? I can’t find a review here on this site. It is a retro chocolate cup candy. Very sweet, very messy, but very good! http://www.valomilk.com

June 22nd, 2007 at 5:43 pmThe milk chocolate layer looks so thick on the wrapper, but not so much in the live pic. Too bad it got squished :( Still tasty I bet.

the coconut is too chewy and prominant. it taste like its filled with cadbury cream which is bad but its not good either.
