Hi Caitlin!

I LOVE freeze dried ice cream and I find that people aren’t as into it as me either. There is just something about that creamy crunch combination that makes it so good. Most crunchy things aren’t creamy, and most creamy things aren’t crunchy! I would take this austronaut stuff over the real thing 9 times out of 10 unless it’s a super hot day out and I am just in the mood for ice cream. Now that it’s super cold here in Oregon I definitely don’t want the real stuff. But to me it’s more like candy than ice cream alternative. Though I believe it’s dairy too since it’s made with dairy. Once it’s freeze dried though who knows what happens with the ingredients lol.

I will check out the 2 links posted for cheaper freeze dried ice cream because on ebay and in REI it’s crazy expensive, shouldn’t be, how hard is it to make? I gotta find it cheaper online because my cravings are so intense !

Are we all forgetting how it’s made? It’s normal ice cream thats gone through lyophilization, simply put it just doesn’t have any water in it. What your eating is literaly, dry ice-cream.

I absolutely love freeze-dried ice-cream — my friend bought me a 12 pack for my birthday once. I don’t know, there’s just something about the texture that’s really great.

I’d call it a dessert or a snack, though. Candy makes sense, logically, but it just doesn’t *feel* like candy when you’re eating it.

i had never heard of this stuff until I went to Florida two years ago… and my first taste was straight from the source! I went to Kennedy Space Center where they had it for four dollars. I fell in utter love, but didn’t go as far as my friend, who bought nine packages!

Oh, this stuff is the BEST! I’m totally addicted to it, and it IS sad. I wish it wasn’t so expensive! I’m glad to know I’m not the only person in the world who would love to see this stuff in the supermarket!

Oh my God, I LOVE that stuff! I had no idea that you could buy it in bulk! I must get some, it’s so good! I haven’t though about astronaut ice cream in years but now I think I NEED some, this is bad!
I’d definitely call it candy though, it’s not substantial enough to be a dessert.

I’m eating the stuff right now!! the flavor I’m having is chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips..MMMM…I bought it from thinkgeek.com…It’s pretty good! It’s nice to know that I’m not the only person out there who enjoys it lol

i first tried freeze dried ice cream when i was in middle school at a science museum. then i got lucky and a candy store in the mall carried it. once that closed, i found it online at funkyfoodshop.com. it’s only $1.85 a package! they ship really fast and i’ve never been unhappy with them

I absolutely love freeze dried ice cream! I didn’t like the ice cream sandwiches, though. Just the neopolition. I noticed that it does kind of taste like the marshmellows to me, only better. I wouldn’t consider it candy, but I suppose I would consider it dairy. Yum.

im afraid im from europe so i cannot eat anything the beaurocrats in brussels have decided is bad for me.
im so lucky to have these people looking out for me and protecting me from this sugary junk food.
BTW- when i travel to america i dont feel the need to discard the contents of my suitcase to make room for lucky charms and astronaught ice cream to take back home;-)
BTW- i have to import lucky charms for $17 a box:-(

sorry, what i meant to say was- astronaught ice cream is candy. and its awesome!
