These Japanese Kitkats are mini finger bars produced by Le Patissier Takagi. They’re the latest in “specialty” KitKats from Japan, following the “Wine” and “Noir” flavors from last winter. Each finger is about 1 3/4 inches long which is perfect for snacking, sharing or a quick treat.
Green Tea and Kinako: Smells of matcha (which is a special strong powered green tea) and is light olive green in color. It has a smooth matte finish. The taste is light, sweet and grassy like one would expect from green tea. This version is sweeter than the other green tea KitKat varieties I’ve had in the past. I don’t taste any nuttiness from the kinako (powdered soybean). Very yummy! Some may find it too sweet, but for me, there’s no such thing, so I enjoyed it a lot.
Strawberry and Nuts: The wrapper claims it’s a mix of strawberry, pistachio, almond and thyme flavors. Interesting! The bar is very pale pink in color with dark red “strawberry” flecks in it. Again, smooth feel and matte finish. The smell is sweet, but I can’t pick out anything distinct. As I took my first bite, I had a hard time distinguishing the flavors. I couldn’t taste any strawberry at all in these which is a shame since I love strawberry flavors. Instead I get a sweet, subtle pistachio flavor that imparts a nutty taste to the entire bar. I think the intense sweetness is supposed to be the strawberry flavor.
For some reason the overall taste of this bar reminds me of sugar cookies. The texture is very light and smooth. This one is much sweeter than the green tea, and again, isn’t for anyone who doesn’t like things that are overly sugary.
These two flavors are worth trying, but if you had to choose between these and the other types of green tea and strawberry Kitkats from Japan, I’d buy the other ones.

A friendly reader just sent me a bunch of kitkats including both of these. I think I agree with just about everything you said. They’re very tasty, but they just don’t taste enough like they say they should.
